Going to try to watch the Dodgers/White Sox game next Wednesday. Kershaw 3 Ks away from 3K. That's gotta be a headline somewhere. He ticks a lot of boxes for me--longevity with a single team being a big one. Too bad it's with one of the richest big market teams, but what can you do.

I’ll never hate on players like Betts, Freeman, Ohtani or Kershaw.
Kershaw wears number 22 because of Will Clark’s time with the Rangers.

Hope you get to see the 3,000th K.

I won't hate on Ohtani, but I will say his vulnerability to outside pitching is pretty glaring as he is always stepping toward first base to pull the ball hard.

I can’t believe we only have 10 Bobby Bonilla days left after today.

Bonilla also gets half a mil every year from the Orioles through 2028.

Tonight's the night for Kershaw. It's a late game (10:10 here in the EST). But it's the White Sox so I'm thinking I'll be able to go to bed after the top of the first...

The man made me stay up way too late but I saw it. I was getting worried because if he didn't get it, his next start would be in Milwaukee. I was working through the lineup to guess which Brewer would earn the ignominy. But thankfully Vinnie Capra showed up in the 11th hour.

Regarding a check swing call:

It’s not about whether or not the bat crossed the plate.
It’s not about whether or not the batter’s wrists broke.

The call is made based on whether or not the batter was trying to hit the ball as the ball crossed through.

Speaking of the Dodgers, Orel Hershiser insinuating that the Astros were sign stealing again is pretty funny. Of course, now he'd have to claim that the Brewers are in on the scam since they chased Yamamoto in the bottom of the 1st inning last night.

I did learn, while reading about Orel's little barb, about the Dodgers strategy to defer vast sums of contract money so they can stack their roster while avoiding salary caps. And in my opinion wriggling out of salary caps does more harm to the game than beating on a trash can. Even if you know a what pitch is coming, you still have to hit it and based on everything I hear from hitters, being in your head (which sign stealing would require) is detrimental to performance at the plate (which is born out by the Astros hitting better on the road without the sign stealing than at home with it during that season).

Maybe I'm just salty that the current Dodgers ownership is turning the MLB into a celebrity brand rather than a competitive sport (ahem Freddy Freeman being the NL All-Star first baseman this year cough). But I can take solace in the fact that you can't always buy performance. How do you motivate a fat cat to pounce?

Jacob Misiorowski is the 1st pitcher since Shohei Ohtani (June 21, 2023, with LAA) to strike out 12 Dodgers.

It's fun watching this kid. It'll be really interesting to see how he responds as the league catches up to him and starts to really test his mettle.

I’m still not over the ending of the Giant’s game last night. Maybe the best finish to a game I’ve ever seen. Dave Flemming’s radio call on KNBR is epic. As great as Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow and Jon Miller have been throughout the years, Flemming is currently the team’s best announcer. The Phillies announcers also did a great job of reacting to an incredible baseball moment in defeat.
