There’s no part of me that doesn’t see this as the beginning of the end.
I dont see the band actually quitting now, they would have made a statement about that insted of just Matt. I kinda feel this means the band will continue and if the reason is Matt trying to slow down, well maybe the band is already planning a new album and tour cycle.

I also dont feel they will ditch all the Matt material, this band always played their whole catalogue. Maybe the first tour with the new drummer will have a group of songs in it and dont change much, but it kinda happened already with the DM tour.

Who knows? as sad as i am, im also exited about a new phase, i already want to to know who is the new drummer goddamn!!

Stuverud makes a lot of sense.

Calling it quits would be hasty...They support a literal village of people.

It'll all come to a halt one day, invariably, so, appreciate it while they're all still here, but, it's not happening now.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Wow, this is crazy news. Long-time viewer but new member. I had to join to share how much of a shock this could be.

It does seem like this could be the end? But who knows maybe they could get a touring and session drummer?

I've always appreciated Matt's talent, but I never thought he was a good fit for this band. I hate what he does on a song like Thumbing My Way. Been waiting for this change for many years.

Hadn't thought about this ... really don't want it to happen. But I recognize they've been trending this way.

Matt's always struck me as the more restless, creative type and maybe is not only tiring of re-hashed shows, but maybe also the slow pace of the band overall. I hope he just wants to do something different or not be locked into the glacial PJ pace, and that's he's not "sick" (like I've read some people saying he looked this last tour).

I feel like I got punched in the stomach. Matt is the only drummer I've seen live with them and he's a big (if not the biggest) reason I started playing drums over 20 years ago.

Amazing drummer, the band was lucky to have him for so long. His contributions on DM were fantastic. I hope he's still healthy and this just means he's gonna be working with SG for the unfinished material and prepping for a HOF mini-tour or something. Being full time with PJ, even at the stage the band is in, could've just been a burden at this point.

Not sure what it means for the band, but it could lead to something interesting if they choose to record with a new drummer.

This is a little weird to me (not your post, just this mindset I hear from a lot of fans). While they support a lot of people, it isn't their responsibility to go on playing as long as they are able to. Maybe they want to enjoy some of life while they physically can? With that being said, if they call it quits, poor dmitri

it's kinda funny. 'good fit', he was the drummer for like a large majority of their career as a band. like wtf are we even talking about?

Next tour will be mildly scaled back being only state fairs.

Does this mean they are planning a winter tour and Matt wanted to get out before another tour?
