Every show I listened to or saw this spring, Ed made comments like "who knows when we'll see you again" or "who knows when we'll do this again". I doubt a winter tour is on the table right now. Ed has got Ohana in September, he's probably dicking off and surfing until then.warehouse wrote:Does this mean they are planning a winter tour and Matt wanted to get out before another tour?

Theyve gone through more drummers than most bands. They will carry on.E.H. I can’t remember a show since he started where Ed wasn’t blubbing about Matt and how amazing he is.
Wouldn’t read anything into anything he’s said recently tbh

in defense of tree! i loved the 98 tour but PJ studio albums never felt the same soul after Jack left. but part of that is also the band changing and not just the drummer.
27 years of ‘permanently filling in’
but ‘permanently’ does not mean stepping away!!!!!!!!
love you matt
looking forward to him attempting future drummer interviews and only being pounded with PJ questions
he was always the Soundgarden drummer in my mind

yeah well, I haven't been a fan for a long time.. like, are we not allowed to comment unless we're unabashed fans? tell that to dime in the The Bear thread.. and i'm not shitting on Matt. Even the way he talks about his time with the band in that Beato interview he was just a gun for hire and also didn't feel like this was the best use of his talentswarehouse wrote:it's kinda funny. Matt Chamberlain filled in for MC for a tour before. He learned a bunch of songs. I think he's capable of playing 25 - 27 songs each night. I don't believe the same can be said about Krusen or Irons at this point.
I also feel majority of the Binaural through Dark Matter material may go into a deep freeze. Ten + Hits + new album material might become the new normal.

Please, don't get me wrong; they've earned the right to carry on as long as they want or to stop tomorrow.E.H. Ruddock wrote:This is a little weird to me (not your post, just this mindset I hear from a lot of fans). While they support a lot of people, it isn't their responsibility to go on playing as long as they are able to. Maybe they want to enjoy some of life while they physically can? With that being said, if they call it quits, poor dmitrioneway23 wrote:Calling it quits would be hasty...They support a literal village of people.
It'll all come to a halt one day, invariably, so, appreciate it while they're all still here, but, it's not happening now.
It's not necessarily my point of view that they're obligated to keep it going, though I do believe they will.
Whether they call it quits today or a decade from now, my life-long fandom isn't affected, at this point.
I believe it's more a practical reality. You just knew, ages ago, that they were going to be "lifers."
They were the band that, barring any sudden death of a core member, they were going to find somehow, some way to continue playing.
Maybe I'm projecting some form of adolescent wish fulfillment on that, who knows?
Either way, the takeaway here is to appreciate things while you have 'em.
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Re: Matts quit Pearl jam
I never loved Matt's drumming but the lineup for Pearl Jam has been consistent for 27 years.....I've never listened to Pearl Jam when Matt wasn't the drummer...never seen them live when he wasn't...and while I don't love his style, being the drummer for Pearl Jam is an insanely hard job with the amount of songs and the length of the show and the energy they put in....and that respect I have to give Matt because he has been holding that down for decades.
It's a sad day.
I don't know why people assume the other songs will disappear. They weren't like impossible to play or anything. You'd think they'd at least start small and ramp back up with new songs each time. I doubt they are going to freeze any material.

I really don't know why some people are thinking they're not going to continue. They will. It's not the first time they changed drummers. In fact, there's a strong rumour about them playing Lollapalooza in South America in March.

Re: Matts quit Pearl jam
i get it, the people who don't like the "Matt Era" don't like pearl jam that much. it's fine, it's just weird that the guy who was their drummer for like 80% gets an "Era". Dave A was 3 albums, Jack Irons was 2 albums, Matt Cameron was 7 albums. Cameron was there for like 3 different PJ Eras.tree_ wrote:yeah well, I haven't been a fan for a long time.. like, are we not allowed to comment unless we're unabashed fans? tell that to dime in the The Bear thread.. and i'm not shitting on Matt. now please tell me he wasn't using his talents b/c most of pearl jam songs are in normal time signatures
