Brad Wilk is a possibility. He tried out for Pearl Jam before they recorded Ten.

Isn't he also a scientologist now? Which was rumoured to be the reason the RATM reunion fell apart (after zack's injury). Can't imagine that sitting well with the band.rick malone wrote:Brad Wilk is a possibility. He tried out for Pearl Jam before they recorded Ten.

Re: Next Drummer Rumours, Predictions and Speculationings
Richard Stuverud would be great.
Technically not the best drummer in the world, but he's a hard hitter and has some good caveman energy
He brought some life back into Animal and some of the Vs & Vitalogy stuff when he played with them in Oakland.
I'd be interested in what Richard could bring to the band.

Everyone else in the conversation just seems a bit Blah.

This definitely means they’ll keep Josh around for backing vocals on songs that Matt did. Can someone at least ask Josh to stop wearing that goofy beanie cap all of the time?

Marcus looks cool in a beanie, though.
Josh is a 45 year old who perpetually looks like an extra in the 1996 film SubUrbia.

man, I don't care how cool you look in a beanie, it cannot be comfortable unless you're in a cold climate all of the time, and therefore it just looks like you're trying so hard to look like a cool person you are sacrificing your comfort, which is lame

Re: Next Drummer Rumours, Predictions and Speculationings
Let's take a look at some drummers who are connected to the band:
Dave A: Will not happen. Even if there's was some opening Im afraid he's not in shape to tour and do 2.5 hour shows. A three minute YouTube video is not prove that he still got it. Sure, he still has the skills and clicked for PJ's music in 92. But it's 2025 now. I mean, look at how fit Matt C looks for a 62-year old. And all speculations aside, the physical part is probably the mean reason he quit.
Jack Irons: Will not happen. See above. This is a physical hard job. Jack realized in 1998 what Matt realized in 2025.
Dave Krusen: Probably not. Looks great and seems to be in great shape. But I don't think he has the power that is needed for the current band.
Matt Chamberlain: Was already their drummer in 1991. Seems to be on very good terms with Stone. Was a Loosegroove artist in the 90s and has reconnected with Stone on Painted Shield. Also drummed on Jeff's latest solo album. Replaced Matt Cam in Soundgarden before. Has proven to be more than able. Out of all their previous drummers this has to be the best pick by FAR.
In 1994 they went for Jack Irons. Who was Eddie's pick to be the drummer for PJ. They all had one pick that was tried.
Richard Stuverud: Jeff's pick in 1994. Has worked with Jeff ever since. Is a powerhouse of a drummer and seems to be a really fun guy. Did one show with PJ and sounded great. But the big question here is also physical. Some years younger that the other guys, but is he fit enough for touring and live shows? He will probably be considered.
Chris Friel: Mike's pick in 1994. One of Mike's best friends. But drums at a more amateur level nowadays. Will probably not be considered.
Josh Freese: Stone's pick in 1994. Another Loosegroove artist who apparently is well connected to Stone. Just got fired from the Foo's. Was he already approached since PJ knew about Matt leaving months ago?? Probably not. But he will be considered.
And some other connected drummers.
Zak Starkey: Ed's was his best man at his wedding and just got fired from the Who. Could be interesting but personal I don't think he would be a good fit. Is the exact opposite from Matt Cam and would somewhat struggle with that work. I mean, he was fired from the Who for overplaying. From the Who!!
Brad Wilk: Played with Ed in San Diego bands before PJ or Rage even existed. Was tried for PJ in 1991 after they fired Krusen. Really interesting choice. Seems to be in great shape now. Could be a really interesting choice. Rage is really done now. So yeah.... Dont think he's as good as Chamberlain, but maybe he will be considered.
The questions remains if any of the strong contenders here want to do it. I mean, Matt Cam probably wanted the life that Krist Novaselic has now. Some peace and quiet. Taking trips with your wife and enjoy family time. But still do some local bands and minor tours. Maybe Brad Wilk just wants the same. Chamberlain and Freese are seasoned pro's who live for this. Those are probably the front runners out of the ones I mentioned here. Chamberlain would be the best pick here.
But PJ also need to start thinking about where to go from here. I always thought Matt Cam would be their final drummer. They will probably record some more records (not many) and will do touring as long as they can/want. But if they want to go for another 10-15 years and become a touring act in their seventies than they should also consider a younger drummer. Someone who is in his 40s now and will beat the shit out of them for the next ten years.

Fcuk, he would be an incredible fit for current PJ.

I saw Chamberlain with SG in both Chile and BA in 2014, and yes he was super tight and yet loose kinda jazzy. His style could match perfectly with all the Cameron material from the last albums.
Could be a good choice yes.
