It's almost disrespectful to keep the band name.

Agreed. SG really really shouldnt regroup with another singer. Cornell wrote most of their best songs. AIC was always about Layne AND Jerry. And it worked. I have no idea how Linkin Park works, but that was also an ok replacement. STP is terrible, like almost all replacements.

SG doing one-offs with anyone, sure. A benefit in Seattle, sure. A full blown name en new music under the SG banner. Hell no...

i do know for certain it was known in Mid june. So, yea, im sure the band has known for quite some time. Especially when watching that they all seem just...satisfied and happy as if its already been processed long before.

Which, gives me hope, they are just ready to fire into their next Era full bore!

Maybe, just maybe. The band decided to start working on another album later this year. And work towards a new cycle next year. And Matt said, no sorry guys. I can't do full blown tours anymore. Im good. Maybe if they said, pfft let's put the band to rest for the remainder of the next two years and start a new cycle in 2027. Maybe Matt wouldnt retire just yet.

Shaina Shepherd is terrific, even better than Brandi. But yeah Soundgarden can't carry on without Chris any more than Nirvana could without Kurt.

Yeah, that's what got to me the most. I got into PJ when I was a 14-15 year old kid. That was in 98 orso. And Matt been there ever since, thats all of my adult life. I was shocked and emotional when I heard the news. Sure, I like to speculate about what next. But I do feel sad. Ill miss that guy. What an incredible drummer he is.

And yeah. Whoever they pick next. It will be the beginning of the end. The final chapter for this band. We always knew it was coming. But now it also feels that way.

Well, they announced the tour last December. So planning and scheduling likely took place last fall, so my theory is it was discussed at that time. They’ve known for quite some time. And have already begun the search for a replacement. Hell, they may already have one and will announce tomorrow for all we know!

Doubt it. I am sure they will announce at some point, but they’ve never been one to rush announcements or anything. It takes them months at the least to roll out an album announcement. Replacing a band member announcement is going to take a while.

Nothing in the language the band used in the Instagram post remotely read as if they would pack it up. In fact, reading between the lines made it sound the exact opposite. HOW they pivot is the question.

Couldn't agree more. Carlile's covers were probably the best SG covers I've heard, and she had massive balls even covering SG knowing there'd be tons of haters out there. She didn't try to impersonate, she just did her own thing and did the songs justice. Would love to hear her do more....but yeah agree needs to be limited to benefits/tribute shows and covers only, nothing original (let's not go crazy here)

I'm not upset that he's left the band but I am a bit sad that I might have already seen him play live for the last time.

It will be good to hear more of Matt outside the confines of post-Riot Act PJ.
