Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
I think the 2022-2025 shows have been some of the band's worst.
2009-2014 had some solid shows from memory, probably the last time Ed's voice was reliably OK.
2006 was the last time they were genuinely great.

Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
whenever i go back to 2009-2015 i find them genuinely unlistenable and couldn't tell you the last time i could get through a full show. even a boot like ottawa 2011, which i consider one of the best bootlegs from that period, or an australian show i actually attended i can't get through. 2016 they start to get listenable again and i've listened to a lot of the gigaton/dark matter shows and have even bought a couple of cds to play in the car i enjoy them that much.
the amount the tempo has slowed down the last 10 years is really noticeable if you throw on a show from 2014. i can't even explain why i can't listen to them, there's just some soul missing from it. it could be the tempo, it could be eddie's voice, it could be the sound of the drums, the guitar tone, it could be all of that or none of that, but it's something missing and i'm glad they got it back somehow.

It’s Ed adding 3 vowels to every other word. His vocal delivery was so weird during this timeframe. Thank god he’s dropped that crap and the band slowed down a bit. I’m with you. 22-25 sounds much better than say 13-18.

I agree that the 2006 tour was the last "great" tour.
I cannot re-listen to 2008 to 2010 shows. Instant skip.
I think after 2010, or thereabouts, the transition to the structure we know today was completed. There was a lot of experimentation(two openers, slow opening handful of songs, etc). I think where they are now is a pretty good place.

Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
I think ever since '03 the bootlegs stopped being a document of a guitar band and more a document of Eddie Vedder and the rhythm section. Drums, vocals, and bass pushed way up. Stone basically inaudible. Mike sounding anemic because all of his mid frequencies are given to Matt's toms and Eddie's insane voweling. Maybe it is the result of mixing for earbuds instead of anything resembling an actual speaker. Maybe it's Stone and Mike changing their on-stage rigs to bring down the tinnitus-inducing volume. Maybe it was Matt demanding to be forward in the mix because he was actually some kind of tyrannical monster.Birds in Hell wrote:I think the 2022-2025 shows have been some of the band's worst.

I remember being floored at how bad Live on Ten Legs sounded compared to how amazing Live on Two Legs sounded. I forget Live on Ten Legs even exists most of the time because I listened to it once and never bothered again. I don't even think I could tell you where my copy of the CD is.
So what I'm saying is now that Matt's gone, the bootlegs are obviously going to be way better because they can turn the drums back down. Obviously this is true.

Has he really dropped it? Maybe he's been doing slightly less of it.It’s Ed adding 3 vowels to every other word. His vocal delivery was so weird during this timeframe. Thank god he’s dropped that crap

Honest question, how much of this melodramatic sort of response is serious vs. tongue in cheek?

Mike's tone has completely fallen off a cliff in the last few years, particularly on the last tour. It's higher gain than he previously used in the band, but also really thin and trebly.lvc wrote:Mike sounding anemic because all of his mid frequencies are given to Matt's toms and Eddie's insane voweling.
I'm not sure if it's a hearing loss related change (when you start losing your hearing, you end up wanting things brighter to cut through) or if it's just his current gear. I'm still not a fan of the band using digital modelling amps, but I'm not sure Mike's using those for his gain sounds anyway, so I can't totally blame it on that.

maybe he wanted to make room for Josh's 4th guitar

Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
maybe the thin guitar is giving matt's drums some EQ room cos his drums sound possibly the best they ever have on a bootleg. particularly his snare on those last u.s. shows. glad he's ditched the oak kit i wasn't a fan of that one on either pj or soundgarden.Birds in Hell wrote:Mike's tone has completely fallen off a cliff in the last few years, particularly on the last tour.
