I don’t think this one is political. I don’t know anyone who watches late night tv anymore. This is just another victim of the current and future entertainment landscape. My kids (18 and 15) don’t know who he is and have never watched an episode of late night tv.
If there is one part of the industry this hurts, it’s stand-up comedy. They’re not gaining fans from doing sets on these shows, but I think it’s always been a significant marker in careers to get your first Tonight Show or Late Night spot.
If it wasn't the highest rated late night show and if it wasn't on CBS, I think a good case could be made that it's honestly, truly just a financial decision. But the Paramount settlement and the upcoming merger makes this thing fucking reek.

Sadly this.
The current administration is attempting to silence every dissenting voice they can.

It’s very much a political thing. CBS wanted to appease Trump, as if giving into his grift of a $16 mil settlement wasn’t enough, so they fired one of his most outspoken critics on their network. It all stems, of course, from the bullshit lawsuit Trump filed against CBS about the Kamala Harris interview on 60 MINUTES last year in the run up to the election. To get FCC approval for a sale of Paramount they settled and now they cancel the long-running series after Colbert called his network out on their terrible decision.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

The message just before 9:31 might have been the straw that broke the camel's back here...
Apparently his show costs an insane $100 million per year to produce and was losing them $40 million a year. And it had something like 200 staff. Crazy.
I'm sure it was subsidized by the feds for when they wanted to push some propaganda, but with that money dried up now, it's not worth keeping on the air.

My nightmare
you're a dirty Friendshead, aren't you?
I'm meant having to watch ANY 90s sitcom in 4k UHD.
