I prefer the Britishness and some of the quirks of Modern Life compared to the 90's indie rock leanings of Blur. I do love that album too however. Some of my favourite Coxon guitar work. As a trio Modern Life -> Parklife -> Great Escape works best. The sound of Blur was too much of a radical departure from the previous releases to make it a cohesive 3 album run which stands up on its own.

I can dig that. But it does open up a whole nother can of worms if you start picking a 4 album run then drop the weakest to make the best three. Infinity infinities.

Oh, I definitely agree. It blows everything up. When I was putting together my first list, I was taken aback by how many acts had three stellar albums interrupted by one that was noticeably less stellar (even if it was still good).

To me, White Album is the one that ruins the run for sure

It has good songs, but is a completely non-cohesive album because the band hated each other so much they just acted as each other's backing band. Sgt Pepper is an absolute visionary masterpiece from start to finish.
