Some of my favorites:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: F♯ A♯ ∞>Lift Yr. Skinny Fists...>Yanqui U.X.O.>'Allelujah!... (Yes, I know that's four, but I see them all pretty much equally, and I'm tempted to include the EP.)

Oceansize: Effloresce>Everyone into Position>Frames>Self Preserved... (Yes, four again, but see above.)

Do Make Say Think: Goodbye Enemy Airship...>& Yet & Yet>Winter Hymn...

Tortoise: Tortoise>Millions Now Living...>TNT

Animal Collective: Feels>Strawberry Jam>Merriweather Post Pavillion

The Books: The Lemon of Pink>Lost and Safe>The Way Out

Deerhoof: Apple O'>Milk Man>The Runners Four

Vic Chesnutt: North Star Deserter>At the Cut>Skitter on Take-Off

Silver Mt. Zion: Horses in the Sky>13 Blues for Thirteen Moons>Kollaps Tradixionales

I prefer the Britishness and some of the quirks of Modern Life compared to the 90's indie rock leanings of Blur. I do love that album too however. Some of my favourite Coxon guitar work. As a trio Modern Life -> Parklife -> Great Escape works best. The sound of Blur was too much of a radical departure from the previous releases to make it a cohesive 3 album run which stands up on its own.

I could possibly dig this explanation. I included Blur in my run, but could be swayed either way.

I'd almost be tempted to say Rubber Soul > Revolver > Sgt Pepper

Sgt Pepper's kind of messes up that mid-to-late-60s Beatles run for me no matter how you slice it.

Rubber Soul - Revolver - Sgt. Pepper - The White Album presents the same exact problems as Modern Life is Rubbish - Parklife - The Great Escape - Blur. Sgt. Pepper & The Great Escape sit in the middle and are the weakest of the four albums. If you could omit either one, you'd have a much stronger three album run than either of the debated options.

Sgt Pepper is interesting as a 60's pop sound experiment but I agree it's not that great a record.

I can dig that. But it does open up a whole nother can of worms if you start picking a 4 album run then drop the weakest to make the best three. Infinity infinities.

Oh, I definitely agree. It blows everything up. When I was putting together my first list, I was taken aback by how many acts had three stellar albums interrupted by one that was noticeably less stellar (even if it was still good).

Fuck all of y'all, Sgt Pepper shits all over the face of The White Album.
To me, White Album is the one that ruins the run for sure

It has good songs, but is a completely non-cohesive album because the band hated each other so much they just acted as each other's backing band. Sgt Pepper is an absolute visionary masterpiece from start to finish.

Average songs from Sgt Pepper: With A Little Help From My Friends, Good Morning Good Morning
Shit songs from White Album: Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, Wild Honey Pie, Bungalow Bill, Piggies, Don't Pass Me By, Revolution 9
Average songs from White Album: Rocky Raccoon, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, Long Long Long

You may disagree with some of those selections, but there sure is way more crap for the good on the White Album. And the best tracks won't ever reach the level of tracks like Within You Without You, A Day In The Life, She's Leaving Home etc etc

Dear Prudence is better than every single one of those songs. So is Yer Blues.
