There are only two Beatles songs I really can't stand and one of them is She's Leaving Home.

Do people not consider "Magical Mystery Tour" a proper Beatles album?

Not really. It's like an EP and singles smashed together on a CD. Great songs though.Kevin Davis wrote:Do people not consider "Magical Mystery Tour" a proper Beatles album?

You could pretty much go any combo of their first 6. I'd go 7, but I'm sure alot of people don't think Presence is as great as I do.stip wrote:Led Zeppelin 3-4-Houses of the Holy is pretty great

To the annoyance of Stip, I'll first list my favorite bands and their best 3 album run:
AC/DC - Highway to Hell, Back in Black, For Those About to Rock
Alice in Chains - Dirt, Jar of Flies (EP), Alice in Chains
Allman Brothers Band - Idlewild South, Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters
Arcade Fire (4 album set) - Funeral, Neon Bible, The Suburbs, Reflektor
- I've listened to Reflektor like 10 times now, it's definitely equal to the 1st three albums
Beach Boys - Summer Days, Pet Sounds, Smiley Smile
The Beatles (4 album set) - Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, White Album
- Really, you can pick any 3 album stretch. Also, these four were released in a 4-year window...
Billy Joel - The Stranger, 52nd St, Glass Houses
Blink-182 - Dude Ranch, Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Bob Marley - Exodus, Kaya, Survival
Coldplay (4 album set) - Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head, X&Y, Viva La Lida
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River, Willy and the Poor Boys, Cosmo's Factory
Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, Before These Crowded Streets
Death Cab For Cutie - Plans, Narrow Stairs, Codes & Keys
The Eagles - On the Border, One of These Nights, Hotel California

Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales, On and On, In Between Dreams

Re: Best 3 album run by any band/artist
I have no interest in Oasis's career as a whole, but I love "Be Here Now" pretty much from beginning to end. My feelings on "D'You Know..." are pretty much identical to this. Great stuff.Lament wrote:D'You Know What I Mean? is brilliant. The weird feedback and loops and blips and the NWA drum samples slowed down to god-knows-what, the 29 different guitar overdubs, the huge, slow build up into the fantastic opening lines ("Step off the train all alone at dawn/Back into the hole where I was born..."), the way the music shifts and gets all anxious in the pre-chorus when Liam's voice jumps up a register and he sings "I met my maker, I made him cry," the video with Liam in the gigantic parka and the helicopters dropping people off on the island. Man, hearing that song for the first time is a moment I'll never forget. Great memories for me.harmless wrote:Definitely, Maybe and What's the Story... were good albums. After that, pfft. I remember my dad liking the song "Do you Know What I Mean?" when it came out, and I really tried hard to agree, and I listened to it over and over again, before realising that "All the people right here right now, do you know what I mean?" were the worst lyrics I'd ever heard, and that was the day I put Oasis down for good.

Pretty much all you have to do to get from "Wonderwall" to "D'you Know What I Mean?" is plug the guitar in.

Fun Fact: D'You Know What I Mean? and Wonderwall have the same chord progression.

Yup. I think I hated that song so much because by then, "Wonderwall" had become a British institution and I'd heard it everywhere. Everyone I knew except for my dad was totally bored of the song, and then they wrote it again.

I'm struck by how few bands I like that I think have 3 great albums in a row. Truly great albums
Oh, I should throw Unforgettable Fire--Joshua Tree--Achtung Baby in there, but I don't know if skipping rattle and hum counts.
