Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

feel free to head for the beer line (or exit) when their wholly unnecessary cover of word up! starts

yeah what a terrible choice. they covered 'let's dance' last summer, totally awesome. this year, not so much.

I'm starting a relisten of all the LiveTrax releases today, every Monday in reverse release order, though 2024-07-16 is a first being the most recent. Let's Dance just does not lend itself well to Dave's voice at all but seems much more a vehicle for everyone else in the band.

i think his voice has gotten deeper as he's gotten older. i listened to both covers in the last week and 'lets dance' is a millions times better than 'word up'. no offense to the song, it's enjoyable, but almost seems like a waste of time for dmb. they've been working in 'fool in the rain' since breaking that out a few years ago. they still do 'sledgehammer'. they did 'burning down the house' at the hof induction ceremony. they've done 'the weight' multiple times since robbie robertson died. again, 'word up' is fine, but there's like 6000 songs i can think of i'd rather hear dmb cover.

Word Up! is no good? His voice seems like it would be perfect for it.

Dave Matthews' stage presence is a bit of a thing with me. When he'd do that weird jibber jabber talk between songs as a 90s twenty something it was just, well, it was the 90s. Everybody was young and weird.

But as a nearly 60 year old man playing to a room of 40-60 year olds, it hits different.

If I went to see DMB and they didn't play Dreaming Tree, I'd be pretty fucking upset.

108 plays in 28 years, the odds are not in your favor to not be fucking upset.

have to say the sets this year are reeeeally testing my impulses to just say fuck it and throw down the cash to go out to the gorge run, especially with bela fleck being there - seeing him perform with them has always been a wishlist item. i'm trying my best to resist, i got some spendy things to pay for in the next year.

I have some good concert memories of Bela Fleck (though not guesting with DMB). Is there a Bela Fleck thread? There should be.

DMB night 1 in Camden tonight :bammer:

looks like the weather is iffy near the start of the show, i wonder if they will bust out 'fool in the rain' again to open. either way, they have like a month off after this I kinda expect bangers

i hope i'm able to see them at the gorge before they call it a career.

i heard a full band version of 'peace on earth' and while the lyrics suck the song is kinda awesome. i thought dmb forgot how to groove like that
