Re: MLB
Some fans are convinced that MLB has created an unreasonable paradox when it comes to betting on baseball but I don’t see it.
If you’re a fan who wants to bet a on baseball, MLB will happily be paid to point you towards the companies who will take your bets.
If you’re a MLB player, don’t bet. Don’t bet on baseball and don’t bet on sports.

Re: MLB
I saw an analysis on TikTok of Clase’s first pitches to start innings, and it turns out they’re non-competitive by a much higher percentage than all the other pitches he throws (it’s something like 17.5% completely unhittable to start an inning, 5% on all other pitches). So it seems he may have been caught doing the same thing his teammate was doing earlier in the year.

I think I'm on record already stating that sports betting, especially now that it's all in an app, is the most existential threat to every sport of all time.
And thank you, Brewers, for being a jolt of sunshine in a shitty July.

If a pitcher throws a complete game and retires all 27 batters without allowing a baserunner but the defense makes an error by dropping a foul ball pop-up, is it a perfect game?

If it’s called an error by the official scorer, then it isn’t a perfect gameMatters wrote:If a pitcher throws a complete game and retires all 27 batters without allowing a baserunner but the defense makes an error by dropping a foul ball pop-up, is it a perfect game?

Damn that would be brutal. Today Alonso missed a foul pop up that barely hit his glove and it was ruled an error. There was no perfect game on the line but it made me wonder.E.H. If that scenario ever happened the official scorer would probably change the ruling to no error.

Re: MLB
I don’t know if this is in the official rules but IMO if there’s a dropped foul ball and the batter is eventually retired with no runners advancing, then it shouldn’t be an error, as it has no discernible effect on the game. But if that batter reaches, or hits a sac fly, or even advances a runner with an out, then the error should be applied.

To clarify, i don’t know if that scenario would be ruled an error, i just know if there is anything other than a zero in the “E” column, it can’t be a perfect game

Re: MLB
History only remembers who threw a perfect game since they have the most to do with it, but I think the phrase implies everyone on the field was error-free.
Separate question:
Is a no-hitter by committee more or less impressive than a no hitter by just the starter?

I tend to agree, especially since now just pitching a complete game is notable, but I am always impressed when everyone is on their A game.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Less
