I've seen the entirety of every show in the thread title at least three times each

And don't put The Wire last because there's a particularly damning depiction of a covetous jew lawyer.

Is the first episode of Deadwood considered good? I’ve tried 2 or 3 times to get through it. I can only assume the series gets better.

The Wire is as good as it gets. I would be sad to think otherwise.

Your time isn't so valuable that you can't watch multiple episodes of Deadwood before making an assessment. Stop being a fucking baby.

Popeye, I didn’t make an assessment other than assuming it gets better. I simply asked a question and shared my limited experience.

Just look at your phone like Anders if you have to. But definitely watch it.

You could’ve said that first instead of promoting cocksucking.

I'm always pro-fellatio, but you'll understand the choice of words soon enough.

These shows introduced me to so many great songs.
There’s more but off the top of my head

Sopranos:
State Trooper
Fisherman’s Daughter
If I Were a Carpenter (Darin)
Direct From the Bar

Mad Men:
Found Love
Bonnie and Clyde
Both Sides Now
The First Time Ever I Saw You

The Wire:
Feel Alright
I Walk on Golden Splinters

Mad Men’s lack of availability on anything but the terrible AMC+ app has really taken it off the radar for most people

Sopranos and Deadwood I watched as they aired.

I lived in California for the heart of the Sopranos and would record 5 episodes on VHS and send them to my dad back in Minnesota. That’s a core memory for me.

Deadwood. To this day, if something annoys me I often say “San Francisco cocksucker!” Al Swearingen is a top ten tv character to me. I like Olyphant as well, but I now see him as Raylon Givens from Deadwood, the only non-sitcom I’ve watched twice.

I didn’t see The Wire until the pandemic. I tried early but was put off by the swearing. Swearing doesn’t bother me, but in any form of art, when it’s over the top, I get distracted by its laziness. I used to love Bill Burr and now can hardly stand listening to him talk. Anyway, loved it once I got into it. The last season was pretty dumb, but I liked the characters enough at that point not to care.

I started Mad Men this summer after we finished Your Friends and Neighbors. I’d seen Hamm in Fargo and The Morning Show and loved him so figured it was time. I’m enjoying the ride and am looking forward to continuing for a couple months.

The approximate hour-long tv show format isn’t one I jump into often. There is new shit constantly and everyone has recommendations. Watching Mad Men feels like reading The Great Gatsby. It’s earned its place in our culture. I don’t feel the same need to watch Peaky Blinders or Severance.

What a great post.

Needless to say, you're weird for the swearing thing. Plenty of cussing in The Sopranos, and it's widely considered to be the best of the bunch.

I get caught off guard sometimes when I remember that these first few seasons of The Sopranos are pre-9/11. There’s a reference to the World Trade Center attack in one episode, but they’re referring to the first one, and then in the season 3 premiere an FBI agent mentions that their next assignment is bugging a mosque. Probably should have been looking at the flight schools, fella.
