Sleater Kinney / Wild Flag / Quasi / related bands
Is one thread big enough to contain the awesomeness that is Janet Weiss bands?
Sure why not...
Sleater Kinney (Carrie, Corin, Janet)
Wild Flag (Carrie and Janet)
Quasi (Janet)
Corin Tucker Band (Corin)
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks (Janet)
Excuse 17 (Carrie)
The Spells (Carrie and Mary from Wild Flag)
Heaven to Betsy (Corin)
Cadallaca (Corin)
Furies (Janet)
Go-Betweens (the album The Friends of Rachel Worth features Janet and Sam on every song, Carrie and Corin lend a hand on one song, called "Going Blind")
SLANG (Janet)
Portlandia (the sitcom Carrie stars in)
thats the main list I could think of...
Janets played on so many other projects/songs Elliot Smith, Bright Eyes, so on
and Carrie has a few one off songs before her Excuse 17 days that i know of...
Quasi's been out playing a few shows, heard they played some new songs, so they might be next to have a new album...
Carries been off doing Portlandia, so who knows about the other 2, although she has hinted that it maybe time for SK to get back together in recent interviews.
Id be sad if Wild Flag was a one and done... Future Crimes and Winter Pair are GREAT songs...

Most of the stuff these girls are related to is pretty amazing.
Janet might be my favorite drummer from her time, Quasi is such a good band...and i hope to see more of Wild Flag because their record was good.
Still cant seem to enjoy Corin´s band that much....so yeah, lets bring SK again soon.

Re: Sleater Kinney / Wild Flag / Quasi / related bands
Ive always loved Janets drumming...
she always seems to be in the right spot within a song? loud when she needs to be, soft when she needs to be, and crashing in with everything she has just when Carrie or Sam freak out (depending on the band)
I felt bad for not putting the Corin Tucker Band in the title... but I ran out of room... and well I just couldnt get into it either.
I WISH
Carrie would still do "This Is Not Your Wedding Song" from her Excuse 17 days...
LOVE how she sings that song

It might be coincidence, but Weiss drums on my two favorite Jicks albums.

I do hope that we get one more Wild Flag record. The band seemed pretty keen to do another.

The only Sleater-Kinney record that I own is One Beat, and I like it a lot. Where do fans put that record on the spectrum?

I have "All Hands on the Bad One," "One Beat," and "The Woods," and I probably like "One Beat" the best.

Steve Fisk and Sam Coomes bring a lot to some of the songs on One Beat. Maybe my favorite thing about that record.

Call the Doctor is the best.

I only like The Woods, but I love The Woods. Maybe one day I'll give the rest another try.

the woods is amazing. The intro, its just, pure rock and roll, loud and fucking great.
But i have a special place in my heart for The hot rock, and the size of our love.

Re: Sleater Kinney / Wild Flag / Quasi / related bands
I'm of the opinion that they got better with every album. Like, if I had to rank the albums I would rank them newest to oldest in order. I got into them with One Beat and fell head over heels in love with them, only to fall even more in love with The Woods. I see all three of them around town and I always want to ask them when Sleater-Kinney is coming back but I know just not to ask.
This also reminds me of one of the times I saw them:

Stephen Malkmus and a juggler came out to join them for "Fortunate Son" during the encore.
Good times...

I can agree with that... I actually played everything from them over the weekend (including the B-sides) its always amazed me when you hear one of them say they almost went on hiatus BEFORE the Woods... how that album almost never even happened... luckily they already wrote Entertain and knew they had to put it on something.matt reeder wrote:I'm of the opinion that they got better with every album. while playing them at work, had a customer mistake them for Rush, forget what song it was on but there was no singing at the moment... so i took that as a huge compliment to Janet rocking the skins.
