I remember my dad liking the song "Do you Know What I Mean?" when it came out, and I really tried hard to agree, and I listened to it over and over again, before realising that "All the people right here right now, do you know what I mean?" were the worst lyrics I'd ever heard, and that was the day I put Oasis down for good.
D'You Know What I Mean? is brilliant. The weird feedback and loops and blips and the NWA drum samples slowed down to god-knows-what, the 29 different guitar overdubs, the huge, slow build up into the fantastic opening lines ("Step off the train all alone at dawn/Back into the hole where I was born..."), the way the music shifts and gets all anxious in the pre-chorus when Liam's voice jumps up a register and he sings "I met my maker, I made him cry," the video with Liam in the gigantic parka and the helicopters dropping people off on the island. Man, hearing that song for the first time is a moment I'll never forget. Great memories for me.
I have no interest in Oasis's career as a whole, but I love "Be Here Now" pretty much from beginning to end. My feelings on "D'You Know..." are pretty much identical to this. Great stuff.
I liked it a lot during my Oasis phase, now I can't stand listening to it. That song is the worst by far-- just irritates the hell out of me. I like "My Big Mouth" and the title track, as well as the aforementioned "I Hope I Think I Know". Basically, the ones that sound like the first album. They completely lose me when they're going for the big over-adorned guitar pop arrangements. It just sounds so ugly, and the songs aren't strong enough to sustain it.

"Supersonic" was one of the first songs I ever played with a full band. I believe i was 16 years old or something and I thought it was the coolest thing ever to be able to recreate such a thing. Also, dont look back in agner. hilarious. Great tunes.

Good one. There's probably a really good 8 track playlist and that would be on there.

Between y'all talking about Oasis and Harmstip talking about Arcade Fire I wouldn't object to OB being set on fire and thrown into a ditch right about now.

I am saddened by your omission of two of my all-time favorites, Listen Up & Rockin' Chair (unless they're on there and I just missed them).

Crazy talk.
Average songs from Sgt Pepper: With A Little Help From My Friends, Good Morning Good Morning
Shit songs from White Album: Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, Wild Honey Pie, Bungalow Bill, Piggies, Don't Pass Me By, Revolution 9
Average songs from White Album: Rocky Raccoon, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, Long Long Long

You may disagree with some of those selections, but there sure is way more crap for the good on the White Album. And the best tracks won't ever reach the level of tracks like Within You Without You, A Day In The Life, She's Leaving Home etc etc
They recorded Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane for Sgt. Peppers. Remove the 2 weakest songs from Sgt. Peppers (whatever you think those are - I'd go with Fixing A Hole and Lovely Rita) and you have the greatest album ever recorded.
ccanad wrote: Coldplay (4 album set) - Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head, X&Y, Viva La Lida
I can get on board with this but X&Y is pretty weak. It's overproduced, has some pretty terrible lyrics and is about 20 minutes too long. Coldplay to me have always been to me about potential - they do so many things right (and at their best they are fantastic) but X&Y exposes all of their flaws at once. Somebody needs to abduct them, lock them in a room for 6 months and tell them to write to their strengths rather than indulge their weaknesses. Viva La Vida is stellar, though. I don't think people appreciate how good that album is because it's Coldplay.
ccanad wrote: Nirvana - Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero
Incesticide isn't an album. If you said Bleach > Nevermind > In Utero you'd be absolutely correct.

I'll also throw out there this:

Another Music In a Different Kitchen > Love Bites > A Different Kind of Tension

I think the Buzzcocks are the forgotten geniuses of UK punk. I mean, people still love them but they don't get nearly as much credit or accolades as so many of their contemporaries. Man, what an amazing band.

Alright, I just revisited their catalogue and here are the tracks that I didn't skip. There are probably others that I could add to that but I was getting sick of them (and the quality dropped).
Spoiler: show
Supersonic
Live Forever
Slide Away
Don't Look Back
Morning Glory
Rockin Chair
Whatever
Half The World Away
It's Good To Be Free
Acquiesce
The Masterplan
Stand By Me
I have their first 2 albums plus maybe 5-6 of those albums singles.
