Honest question: do you think I’ll need two copies for my kids’ two Switches so they don’t fight over it?

Do they play at exactly the same time? Mine just have different profiles with different saves.

They’re getting their own Switch 2s, they have their own accounts, I am just imagining a fist fight on Xmas morning about who gets Donkey Kong. They are both getting the MKW bundle so they’ll each have that digitally. I informed my wife this morning that we’ll probably need 2 DK cartridges, we’ll see.

Beat DK today. Another top tier Nintendo platformer - their most accessible one yet. A+ map and collection tracking - definitely takes some of the stress out of the collect-a-thon. The environment destruction system was impressive.

I'll probably go back and try to collect all the bananas and fossils.

I feel like such a dad when I have to ask these questions, but I barely ever use the Switch and don’t know the ins and outs of the systems.

I want to buy a game form the digital Nintendo store but don’t want to download it for my son until September. I have the store password protected on his Switch so he can’t access it (he’s 7 and bought a game on my PS4 for the first time when he was 6, then I locked that shit down), so if I purchase a game but don’t download it there’s like no way he can see it’s on his Switch until I go into the store and download it, right?

Does he have a separate profile that is attached to your profile/store account? I don't think he would have a way to see it unless he went into the store under your account and viewed purchased games. Is it on sale? Why buy it now?

Yeah on sale now. It’s the Batman Arkham trilogy. We’re driving to Florida in September and he loves playing it on my Xbox. And none of the profiles on the Switch can access the store without my password. So it sounds like I’m good!

The only unknown part is the new Game Card section on the bottom menu. I'm not sure if purchased games show up there without being downloaded. I know previously downloaded games do.

You and MD are the two accounts I first think of when I think of gamers here - Do you think it will be remembered as one of Nintendo’s all-timers or be more like Luigi’s Mansion or Pikmin?

What do you think Nintendo’s first party era-defining games are post-N64?

GameCube: windwaker, smash melee, animal crossing, Metroid prime
Wii: Wii sports, Mario galaxy
Wii U: Mario kart 8, breath of the wild, super Mario maker
Switch: tears of the kingdom, animal crossing: new horizons (huge pandemic assist)
Switch 2: TBD, but I think this console will be most remembered for Metroid and something new like Animal Crossing was on the GameCube.

That’s my list, not to be confused with my favorites (I like Odyssey better than all of these games except the last two Zeldas). I don’t even play Smash Brothers or Mario Maker, and I didn’t enjoy Metroid Prime, but I think these are the titles. I realize all those Wii U games really found their audiences on the Switch, but they were Wii U games first.

I'm not sure Bananza is an all-timer, but it's much less niche than Pikmin or Luigi's Mansion. I feel that Bananza is very accessible - Nintendo's most accessible platformer ever, but it's a collect-a-thon for better or worse. If I ranked it amongst the 3D Mario games, I'd put it in the middle of the pack. Not as good as Galaxy 2 or Odyssey, but better than Sunshine, 64, and 3D World. It's definitely a must play if you've enjoyed the 3D Mario games.

GameCube: Metroid Prime, Wind Waker for sure, however, Luigi's Mansion may have been the most Gamecube-defining game and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Wii: Galaxy 1 & 2 were the best. Wii Sports was the most era-defining.
WiiU: Smash Bros. since it was the first game that used amiibo. Super Mario Maker too.
Switch: BotW for it's scope. Animal Crossing for the void it filled in pandemic-style life. Mario Kart since it remained a month-to-month best seller throughout the Switch's lifecycle.
Switch 2: I'd love a game that uses both TotK's fusing ability and DK's destruction ability - seems like a match made in heaven.

Pro-Tip:

If you plan to play Silksong on both the Switch 2 and OG Switch you will need to buy the Switch version. There's a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version with it.

I hope we get Metroid and Hyrule Warriors dates. And whatever the 40th Anniversary Mario game might be.

Predictions:

- Some sort of Mario 3D World/Land and/or New Super Mario Bros. collection for the 40th anniversary
- Donkey Kong content for Mario Kart World
- Metroid Prime 4 and Hyrule Warrior release dates
- Hades 2 release date
- Resident Evil VII and VIII will be released on the Switch 2
- One more thing will be a new Animal Crossing game for Spring 2026
