Re: Alien: Romulus
I haven’t read reviews yet or really know much about the series at all, but from what I do understand, it sounds like it’s right up my alley. I did a rewatch of the whole franchise last year and realized there’s a ton of chaff in the universe, so it’ll be nice to get a fresh start.
Oh I also read some of the comics from the ‘80s that came out after Aliens but before Alien 3, so it’s got alternate futures for Ripley, Hicks, and Newt. There was some real interesting stuff in there, especially at the beginning, and the aliens make it to earth, but I don’t think there’s gonna be anything carried over into this series.

Re: Alien: Romulus
i read some of the classic Dark Horse comics from the 90s but i dont remember Ripley being in them. I did read a bit of the Gibson´s Alien 3 script that was made into a comic book a few years ago and it was fun.
I guess they will try to ham this one alright, Scott is producing it and he is not going to let anyone fuck over Alien and the Prometheus movies.
Well see.

Alien: Earth
Very solid first two episodes. It was much less weird /off-beat than I expected from Hawley and very much of a piece with the established Alien universe. Very well done. That’s a lot of verys.
We're gonna get more Maginot flashbacks, right? They had some solid actors in that crew.
My only complaint is the xeno isn't slimy enough.

Re: Alien: Earth
I guess the first two were ok. They look good, cast is ok. It felt kinda weird in terms of pacing and boy i do not care about her brother really.
The ending of ep two was weird and i hated that they used a tool song, wtf was that.

Re: Alien: Earth
haha yeah, in all fairness thats something most of the people in the alien universe need to do.
I didnt quite liked the whole brother sister thing. It also made me remember of Romulus in that sense, and i didnt quite cared there so...
but these two episodes had strong visuals so far so im still very interested on whats next.

Its two years before Alien i think. Its previous to that first movie.
So far the most interesting part was the difference between synthetics, cyborgs and hybrids and the whole fight between corporations in earth. Thats was pretty cool.

It’s good to know that the cultural touchstones that humanity has carried forward and still resonate in the 22nd century are Peter Pan and fucking Ice Age.

yeah ice age was weird and so out of context really. One of a few wtf moments here and there. I specially hated the second ep finale, seemed very anticlimatic and i hated the song inclusion and how it was included.Simple Torture wrote:It’s good to know that the cultural touchstones that humanity has carried forward and still resonate in the 22nd century are Peter Pan and fucking Ice Age.

Re: Alien: Earth
It’s a bad sign, I think, that I saw the Peter Pan footage and the Ice Age clips and thought immediately that they used those properties because they’re Disney and can do so without paying. I’m watching The Sopranos right now and also notice whenever Tony watches an old Warner Bros movie.VinylGuy wrote:yeah ice age was weird and so out of context really. I think Hawley said it was in between Alien and Aliens in a recent interview. He didn’t seem very sure of that, weirdly, though.VinylGuy wrote:Its two years before Alien i think. Its previous to that first movie.

Re: Alien: Earth
I feel like the Tool song would've fit better if it was an instrumental version.

Decider can confirm that, yes, this is an ongoing trend throughout the rest of the series. Every episode of Alien: Earth ends with a raucous rock ‘n roll needle drop.
Hawley revealed that he’s a “big fan of the Tool song” in Episode 2. “You don’t see a lot of Tool on soundtracks,” he said. “You know, there’s a Queens of the Stone age track in there later on. That’s really great.”
Alien: Earth Episode 2 “Mr. October” ends with “Stinkfist” by Tool. While that song is obviously about sex, the subtext is about the narrator seeking some sort of validation that they are alive. There are lyrics that describe being “desensitized to everything,” which could describe the hybrids.
"I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."
