reminder: when the sun goes down under the horizon, it's not completely lights out like shutting a light off in a closet.

also, the snorkeling is in a drysuit.

food is very good (but expensive). you can get anything. also, the lamb hotdogs are amazing.

will be beautiful scenery

please don't die in the frigid water
I guarantee none of the water related stuff will happen. Maybe the whale watching.
but it's Dec / Jan in iceland ! The perfect time to go sea kayaking and snorkeling. And snowmobiling is super safe and peaceful and enjoyable because of those two things.
I was there in summer, but I think the temps don’t change much throughout the year. The amount of sunlight does, though.
that could put a damper on whale watching visibility.

chris h 2 set to fly across the atlantic to ride a snowmobile for an hour and sit around in darkness the rest of the time.
* 4-5 hours.
27-36 degrees Fahrenheit.
after this crappy humid summer, that sounds like heaven.
It’s a magical place for sure. We’ve taken our kids to Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, five other European countries, and 45 US States, and they still both say Iceland is their favorite.
yeah, we did summer last time. the kids are unbelievably excited to go back. it'll be a completely different experience this time around.

Thanks for explaining how the sun works. We don’t have one here.

i am sure he is doing fine

traveling is a situation where wifi is not dependable

so we can't necessarily expect regular RM updates like usual

but I am sure he is safe and sound

likely landed and was scooped away in a rolls royce to the Four Seasons where he will be greeted within cucumber-infused water and multiple scantily-clad ladies waiting to bathe him

after his initial rest period, it's off to the smoking lounge for a cigar and updates from the family consigliere on the status of their family companies

which will include ample tips for how to navigate the upcoming discussions with his powerful siblings on succession plans

then time for tennis

then bathing with the ladies again

then canapes and champagne

after that point, perhaps we get an RM message

might be penned by one of his assistants though

One of the wildest experiences of my life was drinking in Ireland and realizing it was still light out at 11:15pm. I was flabbergasted. The locals were all "it really do be like that, tho" while I was all  :bammer:

Is there American beer everywhere? I think Notre Dame was in town during our visit, and all pubs had Coors Light.

I noticed this too. I ordered a proper Guinness, and a bunch of old Irishmen are sitting there sipping Coors. Sort of ruined the cultural immersion.

Heading to Spain and Portugal in 3 weeks so started looking at any restaurants we should book into. San Sebastian has a huge amount of Michelin Star joints so I asked Google what restaurant there I shouldn't miss. It came up with some specific place so I jumped on the website to put my request to book a table in, including putting in my CC details. Only when I hit submit did I read the prices. 300 Euro each for dinner not including drinks! Lol.

Got an email back this morning saying they are fully booked the 2 days I asked for. Don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed tbh.

Land in Barcelona for a few days. Off to Bilbao and hiring a car to drive the North through the Basque Country through Asturias and ending in Galicia at Santiago.

Then Porto and Lisbon for a week and back to Southern Spain (Malaga / Ronda / Seville) before finishing in Madrid and flying home.

Feel free to keep food recs coming - this trip is all about eating and drinking.

i have been eyeing the south of france on the border of spain for a possible future vacay

i love the mediterranean and it looks like great ‘core’ food, drink, scenery without a heavy price tag
