Our budgie did well at my mother-in-law’s while we were away. Two hours after we got him back, he was dead. Our husky surely did it, but we’ll never know for sure. I miss him, too.
One week left before I go back to work. It’s been a memorable summer.
This paragraph was one hell of a ride.

Go well turtles! RIP budgie. Bad husky! (I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and assume this was an accidental, playful slight killing) Rest up this last week daft.

Here we are again at the end of another summer. Here is how I spent mine:
My oldest son graduated high school June 9th. He’s worked at Costco all summer. He and his brother joined a boxing gym. He starts community college Monday.
Got a new shed built in the backyard mid-June. I painted it. Looks great and doesn’t smell like dead mice. New carpet and decor in the year-round porch in August.
Played pickleball every Monday all summer with my best bud from work, but his elbow is fucked up so we played left-handed all summer because I love him.
We got e-bikes and my wife and I took them into St. Paul on Sunday mornings to go to the farmer’s market. We’ll continue this into November if the weather cooperates.
Went to the cabin for Independence Day and a weekend in August. Spent time with my parents and my sister’s family.
Continued my video game renaissance - Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Tomb Raider trilogy, and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.
Read 2 books: My Friends by Fredrik Backman and The Red Convertible by Louis Erdrich
Took 10 classes online from Idaho State University. Should result in a $4k raise this year.
Began watching Mad Men. Currently in season 4.
2 concerts - saw Garbage, 311, and Green Day at Minnesota Yacht Club and Chevelle at the Aragon Ballroom.
Weekend trip to Chicago to take my boys to UFC 319 in August.

All in all, I think this was better than last summer. It didn’t have anywhere near the high as the trip to Italy we took, but my son being unable to find work all summer really put a damper on the entire season, if I’m being honest.

Thanks, Knee Tunes. It was a pretty self-indulgent post. I’m big on reflection at the end of summer and the end of a calendar year. It helps me appreciate how lucky I actually am.

I always appreciate when men openly express love for their male friends. Not something people are comfortable doing enough. I have two best friends and I tell them I love them all the time because they’re the fucking best.

Thanks. I do love him. I have horrible misophonia. He’s the loudest eater I’ve ever met. It is torture for me. But he’s the nicest guy, and I don’t want to sully our friendship in any way so I’ve never told him. He’s also easily the funniest person I’ve ever met. Once I made him laugh so hard he had tears all over his face. It’s one of my favorite life memories. All your friends should know how much they mean to you. I cannot imagine being so homophobic I couldn’t tell my favorite people how important they are to me.

Ps. Sorry about the essay. I’ve been treating this place like a journal lately.
