Re: Actually be honest about your thoughts right now
Last week when I was about to be put under for my procedure and they gave me the obligatory warnings, I thought, I wouldn’t mind if I was the rare case where there were complications and I didn’t wake up. I’ve had a good life. I’m not unhappy with my current life at all, but I also know everything I do going forward will just be a lesser version of something I’ve already done. I haven’t experienced horrible loss (even both my parents are still alive) and family history indicates a torturous battle with cancer is in my future. I’d love to avoid those experiences. My kids - 18 and 15 - would be okay (even benefit from life insurance), remember me, and probably become even closer to my wife. She’s still very attractive and would find a kind partner to enjoy the remainder of life with. I know if someone held a gun to my head, I’d beg for my life, but if I’m being honest and selfish with my thoughts, I don’t think it’d be horrible if I didn’t wake up for another year of teaching tomorrow.

Re: Actually be honest about your thoughts right now
I can relate to this in different ways. There's a heckuva a lot I haven't done or seen that I'd like to, but at the same time it won't matter if I die before. More scared of life than death most of the time.daft twat wrote:Last week when I was about to be put under for my procedure and they gave me the obligatory warnings, I thought, I wouldn’t mind if I was the rare case where there were complications and I didn’t wake up. Re: Actually be honest about your thoughts right now
This is not where I am. Like I said, I’d beg for my life to be spared if the circumstance arose. I’m just saying at 48, I’ve done a form of everything I’ve ever wanted to do - like sure, I’d like to travel to Greece, but I’ve been on several other vacations. Or I’m sure holding grandkids would be awesome, but it’s less than holding my own kids. At the same time, I’ve been lucky with my health and the health of people I love. I’m not hoping for death today; I just had the realization on the gurney the other day that if this was it, it’d be okay. I wanna burst into the Communicate Using Only Pearl Jam Lyrics thread and yell at everybody like WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING DOING? Look at yourselves! Is this good posting?! What are we doing here?!
But I also want to chill and let people do their thing and make their bad posts in peace.
The two sides of me, forever at war with each other.

We all have those two sides, constantly at odds. It’s what makes us well balanced people.

Re: Actually be honest about your thoughts right now
I am surprised sometimes at how bad some of the posting is here these days. Like Facebook boomer level stuff. When I was a teenager, RM was a pretty formative influence on my sense of humor - a great blend of dark, absurdist, cutting, and silly. Often pretty mean. That stuff still happens, but now there’s also [redacted] or [redacted] dropping the lamest memes I’ve ever seen
See? Now I don’t even want to be mean enough to name the posters! What is happening!

Well, it makes sense. Most of these folks used to be in their 30s and now they're old as fuck. That's when you graduate to boomer Facebook memes. It's the rules.
Then there's [redacted] whose brain stopped developing in [their] mid-to-late teens and is beyond help. But that's a pretty unique case.

I cannot believe daft twat did not reference never having intercourse with a man as a regret
I know I would feel odd having left that on the table

Memes have negatively impacted original humor on message boards for sure. We have become too reliant on them for the lulz.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I am surprised sometimes at how bad some of the posting is here these days. Like Facebook boomer level stuff.
