The rifle moment is fine. It’s a dream where Brolin figures some shit out. I don't personally see it as tied to the film's theme at all, which I also don't think is anything to do with school shootings but parasitic relationships and the ways people feed on and off each other

I’ve seen Midsommar but probably shouldn’t have, wasn’t worth my time. I’ve learned my lesson by now.
