Listening to the Perry/Whitford interview right now. This chair Whitford is in looks uncomfortable as hell.

I really enjoyed the Nick Raskulinecz interview, he seems like a nice guy who clearly loves music and what he does. He kind of reminded me of Jack Black when he did the air drumming and guitar playing. What resonated with me especially was him talking about being brutally honest with the artists. Funny story in the end about him walking up to Elton John and having to tell him that he/the band didn't like what he had just played.

The dynamics between Nick and Rick were weird though. Rick was interrupting him constantly which started to feel rude. He would've never done that with more famous people like Fogerty or Sting. His questions about mic positioning and gear were also really detailed and felt pushy, like he demanded answers. It was like he insisted him to tell him all his production and recording "secrets". His questions with e.g. Andy Wallace about the gear and setup were nowhere near as detailed or pushy.

My expectations are pretty low when it comes to PJ being able to create something to the level of pre-PRAMG, but they would definitely need a producer like Nick to tell them straight to their face that songs like "Something Special" are really bad and have no place on the album.

Nick also mentioned about having to use studio musicians few times when a drummer just couldn't play what he wanted to hear. Rick mentioned it being really common in the past, especially in rock music. I'd love to find out in which famous rock albums the instruments are played partially or completely by studio musicians.

I’ve watched a few of them and some are beyond anything I’ve ever learned. Others I’ve found to be quite enjoyable.
