I have no trouble going to sleep but I always wake up 3 or 4 hours later. I've started taking melatonin after a wake up, and it usually does the trick for awhile

Does it make you groggy for awhile the next morning?

There’s some evidence it can cause depression etc.

nope. From what I hear it makes you fall asleep, but won't keep you asleep.

I wake up feeling shitty, but that's for a whole different reason.

I've used melatonin pills a couple times when I've had trouble falling asleep, or to counter jetlag. I like it because it feels much "gentler" than sleeping pills, and it does not give me any grogginess or that hangover effect the next day. I do find I have stranger dreams than usual when I'm melatonin'd up though.

Terribly!

Felt like I’d turned the corner on my latest virus yesterday, so I indulged in a few beers. This led to one of the worst nights of sleep I’ve had in ages. Woke up on the hour every hour til maybe 3-4am, when I proceeded to say enough is enough and move from the guest room (since I’ve been sick) to my marital bed, only to find the kid sprawled out on my side.

Successfully transferred her back to her bed somehow and crashed out til 7am, but I’m exhausted. Steering clear of alcohol for a few more days til I’m more on the mend and the cold meds are well and truly out of my system.

Best night of sleep I’ve had in a while. Got up to pee at 2am and other than that slept solid from 11:00-6:30.

My best sleep advice is to wear yourself out to the point of exhaustion and then have your 4 year old wake you up 30 minutes before the alarm. Repeat.

I seem to have gotten various medical issues under control and my sleep has been amazing. I've been sleeping 8 whole hours a night a few times! Who does that? Lots of weird dreams though.
