Re: Travel thread
Made it to Bilbao in Basque Country today. Was expecting cooler weather and lots of rain. Turns out it's gonna be 37 degrees C tomorrow. Lol.
Booked in to the Guggenheim at 1030am to beat the heat.

Re: Travel thread
Damn! Forgot the selfie. You don't want to know about where I'm sunburnt though.
Picked up the car and drove Bilbao to San Sebastian. Bloody lovely drive. Stopped off to check out Dragonstone (Gaztelugatxe) but it was fogged out and didn't know we needed to pre-book. Oh well. Still very beautiful.
Off to our first ever Michelin Star restaurant tonight, guess I'd better shave. My Spanish is atroz.

Re: Travel thread
I have a habit of taking the squiggliest, windiest roads I can find when we drive and today was no different doing the Costa da Morte from Malpica. Managed to slam into a pothole and blow our front passenger tyre. Pulled over and checked the spare - it's one of the emergency ones. Changed it over and stood back and realised you probably shouldn't run the emergency spare on the front, checked online and sure enough...
So had to take the spare off the front, put the flat back on, take off the rear tyre, put the spare on there and then take off the front flat and put the rear tyre I'd removed on there.
Limped into Santiago de Compostela on back roads doing 80km max and missed out on seeing Cape Finesterre - the end of the world.
Oh well, car handed back, beer in hand now. It was still a lovely drive. And just another adventure to add to the books.

Re: Travel thread
wow. intense
when I went to mallorca, i drove to this secluded beach and on the way the road got windy as hell, felt like a Zelda level
i made it through
it was scary as hell
then i got to one point and saw t-shirts on the side of the road
turns out it is a famous road called Sa Calobra
i had no idea my drive plan was taking me on this type of road
fun times

Re: Travel thread
That was on my list! But we decided against Mallorca for longer in Portugal in the end. Last year driving the Dolomites was like that - insane turns, cliffs, drop off's and mucho traffic to boot. I loved it, the wife not so much.

Re: Travel thread
And just to add to the experience, for us we are sitting on the wrong side of the car driving on the wrong side of the road. You figure it out pretty quick of course but I've always kinda worried what my reflexes would default to in an emergency situation.

wow. yes at least we were on the same side of road as i am used to driving at home. but as we drove, there were oncoming cars and it is a narrow road. there was even a tour bus oncoming at one point and i just basically stopped the car and braced if there was impact. no idea how he got past without hitting me or falling into the ravine

Re: Travel thread
We just had the best meal I've ever had. A local restaurant in Santiago, octopus, a simple salad and crumbed fillet. So unbelievably good. They served a house wine in a jug with 2 x ceramic bowls provided and I'm not a wine drinker at all, but I certainly was tonight. And all up 40 Euro. Crazy.
