Is it actually wrong to ghost someone?
Like in some cases explaining why you don't want to keep talking to someone is just awkward and pointless especially if you don't have much history. I think ghosting is much chiller than explaining to someone why you don't like them?

Re: Is it actually wrong to ghost someone?
Yeah it’s probably the most humane thing when you don’t know someone well.
I had a very good mate ghost me back in the day, that was pretty harsh but also sort of on brand for him. Upon reflection, I think his wife decided she didn’t like me.
I voted depends.

I try to avoid doing it but there are situations where it's clearly the way to go.

Re: Is it actually wrong to ghost someone?
It has never been more acceptable to ghost someone. The rise of social media has seen otherwise chill people reduced to far left/right maniacs. It's sad, but some people are not worth your time. Nor are they owed an explanation.
Ghost away, my brethren.

Agreed. Sometimes the casual ghosting from people you thought you were close to hurts like fJorge wrote:I try to avoid doing it but there are situations where it's clearly the way to go.

Under what circumstances is ghosting permissible?Jorge wrote:I try to avoid doing it but there are situations where it's clearly the way to go.

I forgive him. We just suddenly had very different lives at the time. They’d been married for a couple years and were in the early stages of settling down and eventually having a family, while I was still single and enjoying the last of my twenties staying out late and trying to hook up.Dev wrote:I have lost some bros this way. For instance, we had a little band project, and they started suggesting practicing on Sunday mornings. That was a non starter for me, and he and I were both historically pretty stubborn about things, so stuff like that just piled up.
Though bros can often work through such things, so it was definitely her laying too much into the we all need to grow up now tilt. I was probably drinking too much at the time and she found me immature.

Can’t tell if this guy married up, or has his balls in a vice.spike wrote:I forgive him. We just suddenly had very different lives at the time. Re: Is it actually wrong to ghost someone?
For me, my natural tendency is the total opposite of ghosting. I chronically want to hash everything out. I want to talk talk talk. The times where I've ultimately ghosted was when it became clear to me that the other party was unwilling or unable to pick up on what I was putting down. Gotta know when to let it go.Dev wrote:Under what circumstances is ghosting permissible?Jorge wrote:I try to avoid doing it but there are situations where it's clearly the way to go.
I've also unfortunately ghosted a couple people who were incompetent / unreliable / unprofessional / otherwise disastrous as professional collaborators, yet kept hitting me up for gig opportunities even after I'd given them very frank feedback.

I understand why you might think people who ghost others aren't being real. Unfortunately sometimes you have to draw and enforce clear boundaries, and removing yourself from the conversation is best for all involvedtree_ wrote:ghosts aren't real
