It's interesting how a movie like this opens itself to such varied readings. You've got BEE screeching about how people only like it because of its political content, when to me it's a totally depoliticized film that takes the revolutionary backdrop as a plot element instead of anything more deeply thematic. I don't think it has much to say from a political standpoint

I'm listening to The Big Picture podcast ep about OBAA. It's weird that Amanda, Sean and Chris all love it and agree that it's "the best movie of the year" and "the best movie of the decade."

But also, is it either of those things? I guess, it's up there for this year. But I pretty sure I could name a dozen or maybe two dozen movies of the decade that are better -- and I say that as a person who thinks the movie is really good.

I didn’t listen to it, but they did an additional episode with Van Lathan who brought some contrarian views, from what I understand. One thing I like about TBP is that they just love movies, and they’re very enthusiastic and are having a good time most of the time (I also like The Watch but the amount of concern-trolling and doom and gloom gets to me sometimes), but yeah, it was a bit much at times.

The Van ep is WILD! Like, I'm not trying to be controversial, but... holy shit! Sean and Amanda are literally like "VAN SHUT UP STOP MAKING ME FEEL BAD DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT I'M A MINORITY AND/OR A SERIOUS PERSON AND STOP BEING A DICK YO!"

Unreal. Like, this might convince me to never once listen to The Big Pic pod again. Yikes!
