Wtf is Microsoft doing with xbox?

It's dead, right? They don't seem to be hiding it anymore.

It's being mismanaged, for sure. I thought XBOX as we know it was all but dead, but then leaks about the next console are still trickling through. While someday, all we'll need to play a AAA game at home is an app on our smart TV, we're not there yet - that's where XBOX is definitely headed. It might die before the future it envisions arrives.

Was discussing this in the Xbox thread a few days ago. Really like a lot of Xbox’s first-party content. My kids play every day so it was well worth the $20 per month and may very well be worth it at $30 ($1 per day so I can eat dinner in peace? Yes please). But I’ve already been wary the last few years with their “Everything is an XBox” campaign, and I’ve got a bad feeling the next round of consoles is going to hover around $1000. They’re gonna have to have another great year of games next year to get people to stick around.

Ultimately, it comes down to a steady cadence of quality games. They just missed the mark the past 7-10 years of building out the catalog.

I dont know why anyone would buy an X-Box when you can get all the same games on a Playstation. And with Microsoft/XBox torching their reputation lately, and stores no longer stocking them, a new console is a hard sell.

I don't think the Game Pass business model works. It's not like Netflix, which benefits from a high quantity of content. Most people only play 1-4 games a year, so having so many games to choose from is mostly wasted on them. Apparently making CoD available cost them a few hundred million dollars, so they can't do that again.

I've been wondering, if Halo is going to come to Playstation 5. Already Forza Horizon and Gears Of War are there.

I've had gaming machines since I was a little kid, including a Playstation 1 and 2. In 2007 I was in the middle of divorce, and my playing time had decreased over the years. Thoughts of buying a Playstation 3 was never in my plans. Eventuallly as I was a single man in my late 20s, I met new friends and colleagues, and had a good time living the life of a bachelor. Someone I knew had a group of friends that played the Xbox 360, and especially Halo. I got myself one, and hundreds of hours was spent over the next few years playing. Xbox One (and an upgrade to Xbox One X) were natural purchases. However, I kept hearing about the Playstation 4 everywhere I went. When the PS5 was released, I was determined to buy one. It is now the machine I play the most on. But I did eventually get an Xbox Series X. The amount of games I can play in that system is staggering, many games with my records and progress recorded, and especially the Halo franchise.

If Halo arrives on Playstaion 5 now, that will feel like a final nail in the coffin for what Xbox was. I will certainly get whatever gets released on Playstation 5, and the reason for playing the Xbox will be much smaller.

For me, it was simply a matter of the Xbox being the technically superior console. And still being able to play my library of already-owned Xbox games. Also, I've never really liked the PS controllers. I've owned a PS3 and a PS4 in the past and I've enjoyed the general experience and performance with Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X more than those.

The Xbox controller was the best for two generations but the Switch/Switch 2 Pro Controller and DualSense have surpassed it IMO.

Xbox controller is still the best, IMO. The offset sticks are just way better.

As for where Xbox is headed, who knows. The weird thing is over the last 2 years or so they've finally hit a good cadence in terms of games. Heck, in the next two weeks, three Xbox Games Studios published games are releasing into Gamepass. If they keep that up, they're fine, but I think the big heads at Microsoft (above Xbox division's heads) are starting to get involved more. AI bullshit is starting to ruin everything.

I'm getting my Xbox Rog Ally X handheld this week and I'll probably start leaning more towards the PC side, tbh. Everything will eventually make its way there.

It’s still insane to me that their controllers still require batteries. I ordered rechargeable packs the first week I owned a Series X but it still boggles the mind.

I've owned a good set of rechargeable batteries for a long while. I definitely got my money's worth.

Because I’d like to be able to find and participate in discussion of a particular piece of media versus hunting for random comments strewn throughout mass threads.
