but every now and then you run into so good people in HR who do look out for you.
I wouldnt say i have been depressed but my upcoming surgery has been weighing pretty heavy on my mind as well as always worrying about my heart. Well Friday I was walking past our HR office and she called my name and asked me to step in. We started off with a little banter (thats another post) and she asked how I was doing. I replied well aside from the limp because of my arthritis I am doing ok. Just want the surgery to be done with. She shot back not physically, mentally. I've noticed a little change in your demeanor and wanted to make sure you were ok.
I told I am just stressed with the surgey and stuff and thanked her for taking the time to check in on me. There are very few HR departments that do that.
But seriously, that’s really nice. It’s rare to find a beam of (seemingly) genuine humanity amidst the cold and calculating professional world of 2025.

Did you see what’s going into the old Trib warehouse downtown?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Great weekend in Illinois. Perfect weather, hanging out with people I love, great food. Went to a haunted house that was a little disappointing but still tons of fun (can't help but smile ear-to-ear the whole time I'm in any haunted house regardless of how good it is). I hated living in Illinois and would never want to set foot there again during summer, but autumn in the midwest can be really wonderful.

Went to talk to our neighbor, who I’ve never met, about his half dead tree that has a large portion hanging over our yard. I had an arborist look at it this week and he agreed it needs to be taken down before it comes down itself.
Anyway, I’ve had glimpses of the guy and was preparing myself for a crusty old dude to tell me to get off his lawn, but turns out he’s a lovely guy and a fellow ex pat from Cincy. He said he totally understands my concerns and he’d like to have his gardener look at it. Fine by me, as perhaps this means he’ll cover the cost - though we didn’t discuss any of that yet.

Re: Talk about your day thread
I have been trying marihuana gummies for the last year or so. I am finding that how "high" I feel is highly affected by how much I lean into it. I can take a gummy one day and sit down and stare at the leaves in the trees or at the clouds and have literal visual hallucinations, like cartoons appear in the clouds. Or I can take the same gummy and more or less go about my evening. Or I can lean into it for a while and then decide to snap out and feel more or less normal.
The effects of alcohol are way more unavoidable. If I've been drinking, I can't just turn off the drunkenness.
Is this normal? Am I a freak?

Would you be able to, for example, get through a full work shift while under the influence of an edible?

I find it situational. I can take 5 to 10mg and sit at home with the family feeling relaxed. The same dose at the grocery store can be a little unnerving and makes shopping way harder than it needs to be.

I've started responding to "happy Friday" greetings with "yup, almost Monday" and seeing the wind come out people's sails is making my day.

I'm a "that much closer to Monday" kinda guy.Self wrote:I've started responding to "happy Friday" greetings with "yup, almost Monday" and seeing the wind come out people's sails is making my day.
I often get "living the dream" in response to some cordiality and am forever working on my "someday you'll wake up" deadpan, I don't think it is particularly funny but I detest that saying.
