I have it on. I’m enjoying it, though not gonna lie Church & State is the best by a highway mile and I do wish there was more of that here. But it’s all good.Ms Harmless wrote:yaaayepilogue wrote:This album is perfectionepilogue wrote:Ms Harmless wrote:love the new Brandi Carlile album, it's just a perfectly constructed little warm hug![]()

Church & State is excellent but I love the weepies most of all, "Returning to Myself", "Human" and "A War With Time" are my favourites; something I like about this album is that the full-band + drums songs alternate with the solo acoustic ones, so it never feels like either style is jarringliebzz wrote:I have it on. Re: Albums of 2025
A Way With Time came on and I was fully weeping on the subway train coming home from work. What a fucking gut punch of a song, in the best way.
I looked up and a dude across the way saw me, he gave me a look of sympathy and touched his first to his chest when we made eye contact. I smiled and nodded to him.
It was the most genuine human moment I've had with a stranger in a long, long time.
I don't care which song you pick, this whole album is a gift.

Also, Human helped me appreciate loving in this city in a way I haven't felt in at least a year.

Re: Albums of 2025
I'm listening now and something I really appreciate about the recording is the clarity and presence of each instrumental layer. Everything is allowed to ring out clearly and evenly while somehow not crowding the mix or feeling muddy. I feel like this is very unusual in similarly "loud" modern recordings. Sorry to focus on that one thing, I just really like the instrument separation of "Church and State"liebzz wrote:I have it on. Woof... Taylor Swift got nothing on Lily Allen. Her new record? David Harbor will never recover from this.
