A film full of great direction and performances. I have minor quibbles with the editing of the final act but this was pretty damn solid.
Spoiler: show
it kinda feels like 10-15 minutes are missing from this -- maybe one vignette short. I'm not sure what the point of the CNN character was.

The different perspective mechanic worked against it. Sapped the crazy momentum established early on.

That being said, this movie is pretty affecting. Obviously the doomsday subject matter is going to do that, but I can’t stop thinking about it - how none of us are really prepared for such an event, and quite helpless if it happens, all the way up the chain to our world leaders.

Bigelow Is Back gives me Ridley Boyega Are Gone vibes

I probably would’ve liked this movie less if I still lived in Chicago.

Just finished a rewatch. The third act is a misfire but it’s not bad. The lessened tension actually felt more like suffocating dread, wholly appropriate at that point.

That said, the movie should’ve started with POTUS up through him being pulled from the arena. Then go to act 1, then act 2, and then finish with the scene of him on Marine One.

It still feels like an entire act is missing.

And cast someone else as POTUS. Or at least shave, Idris.

Weirdly, the theatrical version we saw had a different actor playing POTUS while he’s offscreen. And it’s not me speculating; the voice was listed in the end credits and has an IMDB credit. On Netflix, it’s clearly Elba. Not sure what the intent was — keep Elba being POTUS a surprise during the early release window?

The second act - if that’s when the general is the focal character - is where it kinda dragged for me.

Villeneuve doing "Nuclear War: A Scenario" after Dun3 would be a valid, more horrifying sequel to this.

I thought this was mostly pretty excellent. I'm down with the different POV structure, but agree that it kind of killed the momentum a bit after that incredible first act.

It made it extra terrifying thinking about the real-life dipshits currently occupying these positions. You're telling me the fox news guy is doing Jared Harris' job?

Amazing first act, then a bit of a snoozefest. Meh.
