Who has been the most talented member of Pearl Jam, past or present?

Depends on what you want that talent assessment based on. Probably in terms of pure playing ability, Matt Cameron wins the prize. But in terms of song-writing you probably could argue Stone Gossard, or you could argue about Eddie Vedder’s talent as a frontman and performer. There are certainly moments in nearly every show where Mike McCready’s playing blows everyone out of the water. It’s really how their talents mesh in a whole is greater than its parts that makes this band so special.

Matt was the best musician in the band...now he's gone

I think Jeff Ament is really good, but I can’t imagine someone hearing these albums for the first time would be like “forget everything else and just focus on that bass, man!” That doesn’t make him a slouch in any way, just that I don’t think that’s the one thing that impresses me the most on pure playing. I also think as trying to make the point that more than a lot of other bands, the musicianship is a collective where there’s not that one guy that is so good the rest look amateur comparably. They sound nothing like the Band, but they have a similar egalitarian sense to them that not one guy is driving the whole thing, but that collectively they are all pushing the music forward.

It's Eddie, no question. Doesn't mean he always performs the best. But overall, it's Eddie. If you want to break "most talented" into categories, then you get some different answers.

Agreed. Its easy to overthink it, and all members are uniquely talented and mesh together really well which make them a great band, but Eddie is the only transcendent talent.
Stone: Really creative, original guitarist who came up with some great riffs and songs
Mike: Great feel, fast playing lead guitarist. Plays with great energy to match the music
Jeff: Very melodic and creative bass player
Matt: Extremely technically skilled drummer
Eddie: One of a kind singer with great range, powerful singing and lyrics, and sometimes excellent songwriter (winner)
Just this guys opinion

I got id benefits a lot from having Jack and Neil. And a more relaxed pace.

That solo by Neil is one of my all time favorite solos
Sure, it's not a master class of technical wizardry...but what Neil manages to do with those notes and that TONE!!!
It's the perfect solo for that song and for that moment.
It just takes an already amazing song to a whole other level.

Brendan O'Brien is also doing incredible work on the bass on that song.

Yeah, that solo is, I think, my favorite piece of recorded music.
