Why do people ask this question? They have two albums--just listen for yourself and find out!
There are a number of comments on page 2 that question how one could find something so inoffensive and unremarkable so deserving of hatred, and I get that. But there has always just been some "it" factor about this band that has been particularly grating to me--a combination of that guy's cocky, emotionless slur and that contrived "crescendo" effect that Harmless describes, that moment that 90% their songs inevitably arrive at where they're all just jumping up and down banging indiscriminately on open chords--I'm certainly pro-crazed abandon but give me a rock band that can actually make some noise. And I'd turn a blind eye to all of that if I thought their songs were any good, but I find them to be all fireworks and pomp. They are one of my least favorite major acts of the last 10 years.

You just summarized everything I hate about this band better than I ever could have.

I remember watching them play live on TV for the first time. At the time I was a big fan of their first album (still am, to an extent) so I was up for it. But as soon as I realised they played everything too fast, too excitedly, and in a way that geed up the crowd to ecstatic, frenzied levels, I found them to be an awkward mix of quaintly-British folk band and overly-emotional stadium rock band, and not incredibly successful at either thing. Jacks of all trades, masters of none. So their name seems appropriate.

I have trouble working while I listen to music, unfortunately, and incredibly limited windows for listening to music. So I want to make sure the chances of a long term payoff are higher than usual.

Def worth listening. First album is solid, 2nd has a lil slower pace but still great.

I would say no. There are plenty of bands that do this type of music a billion times better.
They're possibly the most repetitive bands I've ever listened to and they have dreadful lyrics.
I saw them live last year and what was surprising was that the songs that they used their "schtick" on were easily the worst. A few of the songs utilised a full kit/band set-up and they were 100x more interesting, diverse and exciting. I don't see why they don't stick to that some more.
I pretty much have the opposite opinion; I find their "rock" songs involving the whole kit to be the most generic.

At the end of 2013 we went our separate ways to pursue our individual passions - be it playing professional football, getting into the catering industry, becoming an it-boy - and with each of our new careers quickly spiralling into bankruptcy and public disgrace, we had no choice but to reconvene and make a new album. So we spent 2014 writing and recording this record.
It's been a liberating and unifying experience for us as a band, and we're proud of what's come out. It was about songs, first and foremost. And then of course the sound we felt supported those songs best, which is what you will hear. We spent some time with our friend Aaron Dessner in New York (the album was half written in NY and half in London) then brought it to Mr Producer, James Ford. It was fun. Anyway, here it is... Our 3rd album.

I wish bands would do away with this practice of announcing a "hiatus" just to account for the normal amount of time most artists take between albums anyway.
