Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Post by Ensign9 »

This is probably next on my play list with Blue Prince finally winding down.

Those of you that have played, is the PC version superior enough to justify playing it versus the Xbox version?

Started this over the weekend, really enjoying it so far. I’m playing on Xbox and have no complaints about performance.

I beat it earlier this year. It’s now in my top 5 games all-time.

Also, elite soundtrack. Even listen to a few tunes while working out.

Playing on PS5 currently. So far, so good. Everything is great. Only complaint is some text is tiny, even on the largest setting. The off-the-beaten-path optional bosses are so tough thus far. I hope to go back to them in many levels.

Probably my only gripe at this point is that the map and fast travel system is fairly limited, so when I do want to go back and find something, it’s hard to remember where to actually go to. As CopperTom alluded to, there’s an obvious side-boss early on and one of the party members says not to fight him because he’s too dangerous. Now that I’m a few areas in I want to go back and give it a go, but I’ll have to look at a guide to figure out where to travel to.

Those fucking mines, man.

Damn, I did not see the end of Act 1 coming.

Yeah, the story goes places. It's truly special, IMO.

Up to the very start of act 1 was boring. Stopped the game after that, but will continue another day.

A turn-based RPG with action during the turns. You can dodge and parry the enemy's attacks. Playing this on hard would probably appeal to From fans.

Never been a fan of turn-based combat but this has gotten so much hype lately that I plan to check it out over the holidays...

I'm a little worried there are too many party members, skills, and other systems for me to truly maximize but the vibe and characters in this game are extremely "my vibe".

I took a two week break from this and now my timing for blocks and parries is all fucked up. Gonna have to get beaten a bunch of times before I have the feel again.

I owned the last few enemy types. Hopefully, the next section is as beatable.

When you're at camp, what's the point of upgrading Lumina levels? Don't you get to equip 3 Pictos no matter what?

I've watched 3-4 videos, but I'm still confused about the Pictos/Lumines system. Also, it feels like my weapons are doing very little damage, but I'm afraid to upgrade them if there are better weapons right around the corner. Do you get plenty of upgrade materials?

I've been pretty hesitant to upgrade my weapons. I wouldn't go crazy upgrading, but you can upgrade some. I think I've found 2 "forever" weapons - one allows for essentially a double turn (paired with a heal self on base attack picto). The other reduces heals AP usage, sometimes down to 0.

Every time you get a new picto it can be equipped to one character at a time. Once it’s used a certain amount of times in combat (I think 5? I’m not sure) it can then be attached to any number of characters BUT at that point there will be a lumina number attached to it, and your character can only attach pictos if they have enough lumina free. I paid a lot of attention to this at the beginning and was very precise about how I chose and attached them, but now I feel like there are diminishing returns and I haven’t picked up a useful one in a while.

(I started that paragraph three different times, it is a complicated system to describe.)

Pictos/Lumines was not explained well early in the game. I feel like it wasn’t until the end of Act 1 that I figured out how to equip them.
