I liked the first third of the trailer, and then I didn't like the middle third of the trailer, and then I liked the last third of the trailer

the subject matter is right up my alley so I'm at least confident that I'd like to see more; I'm sure my "generic" comment is due to the fact that Spielberg pretty much originated these tropes, so he has the right to use them without changing them up all that much

That aside, it looks decent although nothing we haven’t seen before trope-wise. I will hope for the best.
I agree with the look of his recent films. War of the worlds comes to mind.

But I am interested in seeing this movie.
WOTW? That’s recent? 20 years ago?

Insane take
To each, their own. I don’t like the soft focus, lens flare, and desaturated color palette. It worked well for A.I. as it lended itself to its fairy tale motifs and, to an extent, Minority Report because of its dreamlike / vision of the future quality. Not so much everything since.

not a fan of his later style either. It's so dreary and un-Spielberg-like.

Desaturated color palette? West Side Story? The Fabelmans?

I think a lot of his (I'm gonna say "his" but I'm referring to the Spielberg/Kaminsky collaboration) go-tos are misread and flattened into this idea of "how Spielberg movies look" when they're actually extremely varied, and often designed around themes and narratives instead of just aesthetic quirks. Munich is drained and harsh because it's morally exhausted, War of the Worlds is claustrophobic and metallic because it's about shock and disorientation, Lincoln is practically candlelit oil painting realism. West Side Story is bold, colorful, classical... I don't know how anyone could call it desaturated or dreary. I think it's one of the most beautiful looking movies of the last decade.

Also the idea that it worked for AI and Minority Report but not since kind of assumes Spielberg stopped making films about memory, trauma, history and perception which is basically all he's made since

You're right that we're talking preference here so I can't tell you you're wrong but my take is that in the current cinematic landscape where the majority of major releases are framed and lit like TV commercials, they're one of the last major director-DP partnerships that still treats cinematography an extension of artistry and thematic exploration rather than just a pragmatic tool to let the audience see what the characters are saying and doing. I hope they keep making movies together forever!

I know you're joking here, but Minority Report is, in fact, overrated.

Okay, so I watched the trailer now. Twice. Coupe of thoughts...

1. This looks interesting but also trite and tropey.
2. Emily Blunt, Eve Hewson and Coleman Domingo are all awesome and I want to see the movie because they are in it.
3. KC, baby!
4. What's up with deer being pivotal in so many movies lately?
5. The thing the nun says at the end is a big reason why I fucking hate organized religion and why I don't believe in God.
6. It doesn't seem as "stylized" as I expected based on the discussion here.
7. I'll see it.
8. Also, both time I watched the trailer it got all pixelated and low-fi. Is that the movie? Or just the tech on which I'm watching it?

Also, when does this movie take place? What's up the video flip phone? Are those real?

Also, also, Wyatt Russell? Aw, man.... maybe I won't see it.

He sucks. Okay, that's unfair. He sucks in the two things I've seen him in. And so him being here doesn't help my interest.
