Whenever someone mentions this I'm reminded of reading about in the sports section of one of the Chicago papers at the time, and initially misunderstanding it and thinking Jack McDowell had beat up Ed, and thinking "wow, what a weird story." I was pretty young though, and still not super into Pearl Jam.
