I get what you're pointing at here, but I don’t really read that moment as tapping into a "black parent abandoning their child” trope. If anything, the cultural stereotype people usually point to there is about absent fathers, not mothers -- and even then, I think this character is written as an individual making a specific (and morally messy) choice (especially in light of her letter at the end), not as a stand-in for anything broader
