They got a little Return of the King on the ending, but I like how this show wrapped up. The final D&D campaign scene was great.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

As convoluted as season 4 and 5 were, I think the epilogue was great.

This whole secret episode thing would legitimately be a funny way to undermine what was a satisfactory ending for a show that outgrew itself long ago. The show ended; it’s time to move through the stages of grief and get out of denial

this has happened every time a show ended in a way that people weren't happy with ("what if it isn't really over?"); we did it with The X-Files because the revival finale was absolute shite

It’s a silly rumor. People are calling it “Conformity Gate” thinking the ending we got was a Vecna illusion

The other good thing about this show finally ending is that the most annoying fandom in the world will wither and fade. Thousands of mentally ill Tumblr refugees "shipping" fictional teenage relationships and making it their entire personality will finally come to an end. For now.

I liked the ending I'm just saying there's a lot of stuff thrown in there that can't possibly be coincidental

I'm not saying the ep will happen anytime soon but it def sets it up

1) having another episode after people shelled out $20 a pop to see the finale in theaters (which turned out to be just a concessions voucher but whatever), well that would be a giant middle finger

2) the fact that Will’s coming out narrative had absolutely 0 callback in the finale kind of strengthens the case that the showrunners just wanted to write a coming out scene and shoehorn in a gay character just because optics. The whole idea came to nothing. Just terrible writing.

3) the pacing of this show has been abysmal. How many times were, say, Max and that baby sister character running for their lives and just having an extended walk and talk. Literally walking. Or in the finale, they’re just strolling around an alien planet that is supposedly about to crash into earth. So much walking. So much talking. Terrible directing choices that completely exsanguinated any sense of urgency.

4) I agree about the annoyance levels of the fandom. This show was a great idea that completely came to pieces by season 4, it was handled with gross self indulgence once it became a success, the characters were crudely drawn and inconsistent and played by actors who didn’t have the chops. It was all just sad to see. Steve Harrington killed it. Everyone else just woof.

5) what on earth happened to the military presence? Those Hawkins people ostensibly blew up about a trillion dollars in military research and the military just… left town? See previous point about terrible writing.

I don't think Will coming out was irrelevant in the final episode.
Will was able to fuck up Vecna's arm while saying "I'm not afraid anymore".

But still that’s a very very thin slice of relevance.
