after purchasing it more than a decade ago, starting and stopping it, and shelving it, I’ve finally gotten around to reading The Corrections.

I’m about fifty pages in, which is the farthest I’ve ever read, and I already hate everyone.

I read The Corrections in 2011-ish, and I’m sure it’d be a different experience now as a parent. It’d be fun to re-read it this year 15 years later.

Curious what put you off. The general atmosphere of pathological self-awareness and insecurity is pretty exhausting but I’m looking forward to the bloodbath he seems to be building toward.

It was a while ago so specifics aren't there but the exhausting portion you note did not compel me to read any further, from what I remember I couldn't stand any character coupled with almost Hawthorne-esque mundane detail driven gargantuan paragraphs and honestly could not care less.
