Re: Definitive Artists of Each Decade of Your Life?
But you had some exposure to Nirvana and AiC? That's interesting. I feel like PJ, even back in the day, were understood to be closer to Classic Rock than those others. Especially Nirvana.BurtReynolds wrote:deepest bowels of the deep south. Only radio choices were country, pop and maybe a classic rock station. Sometimes you might catch some modern rock late at night.epilogue wrote:If you don't mind sharing, in which state did you go to high school?BurtReynolds wrote:Strangely, I don't remember Pearl Jam being played much around my area during high school. Rock music was kinda hard to find in general, but I was well aware of the other grunge bands. I somehow didn't really discover PJ until I graduated.
Do you remember how you heard about them? Nirvana, I mean.

I was aware of them in the 90s, obviously, and started to really dive into their stuff in my early 20s (mostly because of a girl
But I finally really got into their stuff in my 30s and kinda hated that it took my so long.
Meeting Adam at a theater in my 30s was a cool night. He was so genuine and open and kind. And the dude LOVES the arts.

Re: Definitive Artists of Each Decade of Your Life?
The more I think about this, the more I think music in my life has been more defined by genres than individual artists. I was born in 77, and top 40 radio was always on in the house and in the car. Casey Kasem was my guide. So 77-91 was pop.
The Even Flow video changed the game for me. I was obsessed with PJ, but I was also enamored with Alice and STP and Soundgarden and Paw and The Toadies and Local H, etc. So modern rock took first place, but I was still enjoying pop music. 2020 was probably the end of that. I think that was around when WAP was a hit. It wasn’t a conscious decision to stop listening to top 40 radio, but it just didn’t appeal to me anymore. Dua Lipa is the last pop artist I really liked.
Since then, Yacht Rock has dominated my music life. There isn’t new music to get excited about in this genre, but I don’t ever seem to tire of it.
