Re: College Football
I gave mine up this past season because my kids started playing their own youth football on Saturdays, so not worth it to shell out $2 Grand and miss half the Husky games. That breaks down to like $600+ per game actually attended. UW doesn’t sell out very often anymore and some of those early season non-conference games, literally they give tickets away for free. So mostly my own schedule, and yes some part financial.Monkey_Driven wrote:Because of this QB fiasco? Prices? Our season tickets have gone up 60 percent in two years.Bammer wrote:Big day here for the Bammer clan - after decades, like 50+ years, we decided to drop our Husky season tickets.
The QB fiasco is just the latest example, albeit a VERY glaring one, that has me pretty disillusioned with college sports. Should the players get paid? Yes. Should they get paid a LOT of money? Yes. Should they be able to freely hop between schools every single offseason? HELL NO. Gone are the days of getting invested in players as a fan and watching them grow up in the program. Coaches now have to spend a huge chunk of their time and effort RECRUITING THEIR OWN PLAYERS!
I hope fans vote with their wallet and their feet, as we have chosen to do, en masse, until the NCAA can find a way to pay the players AND keep them from constantly transferring.
My dad and sister kept their tickets last season, but agreed to join me on this today, and walk away. To get my dad to walk away from Husky Football season tickets is a pretty significant thing, and he actually didn’t even put up much of a fight about it (this is not what he needs to spend his money on at this point in his life, and the reality is he can still attend every single game for probably 10% of the cost … he won’t have the best seats in the house anymore, but life has trade offs).

You can get away with murder on Hail Mary attempts, similar to jostling for position on buzzer beater tip ins.wease wrote:Can’t believe there was no flag on that last play. Ridiculous.
It was a great game. Something tells me Ole Miss would have found a way to win if they had like 15-20 seconds more time on the clock.

Re: College Football
Buddy said this last night and I lol’d. It’s a great point.
20 years ago if you asked me to bet $1,000 that Indiana would win a football championship in my lifetime, that’s an easy no. No way. Indiana? Never.
Amazing now they are on the doorstep.

You’d have probably said the same thing at the beginning of the season. Hell, maybe even the playoffs.

the modern college football landscape will make it easier for previous also-rans to become a contender or an eventual powerhouse.
has made it easier, I’d argue.

Re: College Football
Agreed, and we have evidence (Indiana, Mississippi) in the short term. This is new and exciting. Donors are motivated (currently).dad wrote:the modern college football landscape will make it easier for previous also-rans to become a contender or an eventual powerhouse.

In the long run I would see it trending back to that top group of maybe 10-15 “schools” that have massive fan base and money, as the only truly competitive programs. Does Indiana have a fan base that is willing and able to fund the program like this for the next 25 years? Texas certainly does.

A great game and an unforgettable season for Indiana. I hope it's there last one and they can share the wealth with of the other terrible to mediocre programs.

Re: College Football
It's cool that anyone can watch college football. Sounds like it was a good time and "a great game." I'm happy for those that care.
