Just finished second week of rehearsals. A lot of work, and a lot of fast, word salad songs. I think I'm getting it down. Having a difficult time with some of the big harmony pieces, but we have a good music director. I'm a baritone apparently.

Right on!

How are you with learning dialogue? Do you have a lot of lines?

Not too many lines I guess? We all have about the same amount, there isn't really a "lead" in this show. I'm having a harder time with the dialogue than I am remembering the music. But I think that is normal? I do open the show though. I have the first few introductory lines, then I start the first song by myself, so that is a little unnerving.

Saw a post-rock, post-modern opera at BAM called What to Wear on Sunday.

It was first staged in 2006 and this was the first major staging since. St. Vincent joined the cast. It was 70 mins. And it was so goddamn weird! As best as I can tell, it was about Madeline X, an ugly duckling, who is banished from the world of all beautiful people/things. She goes on a journey and comes back to the world. Unlike the ugly duckling who becomes a swan, Madeline goes punk and becomes exactly herself, a weirdo and an inspiration. The world, rather than accepting her, as in the old ugly duckling tale, eats her instead.

I have no idea if that's right. But it's the best I can come up with.

Annie was literally AMAZING in the show. And I was about 15 feet from her when she did her curtain call, and that's the closest I imagine I'll ever be to her. Swooooooooooooon.

The rest of the show was cool. It was weird and I don't think I understood all of it, but I had fun and the penultimate movement about how ducks prefer spaghetti or roast beef or cream cheese on toast to eating duck was hilarious and moving.

I met Annie Potts once. She got Jean Smart wasted in her dressing room and I'm pretty sure that's why she broke her leg.

Delta Burke was also supposed to come see the show, but she never did. We were all pretty bummed.

Well our two week run of Come From Away ended on Sunday. Not gonna lie, it was a grueling but amazing experience. Awesome cast who didn’t mind helping a newbie like me.
