I watched the first episode last night and probably didnt laugh once..I was hoping to like it..maybe it will get better
I think its probably impossible for Gervais to play a nice person

I guess I'll check it out eventually. I'm so tired of Ricky Gervais.

I agree. Couldn't find a single reason to watch past the first 15 or so minutes frankly and I've stuck through some stinkers. (Brickleberry, for example)

I can't imagine ever being tired of Ricky Gervais.
But this is exactly nothing like anything I've ever seen from him.

I think it stems from following him on Twitter for about 3 days before discovering he's an insufferable jackass

I can see that, I suppose. But he's never bothered me on Twitter.
Either way, I only watched the first episode, but Derek is a very different animal for him. It'll be interesting to see where it goes.

Based on the thread title I feel like this character's last name is Netflix.
And they say that a hero could save us

I'm enjoying this. Yeah, it's overly sentimental and cheesy (the montages are way over the top), but I still like it. I've known a few people like Derek in my life and find them fascinating. Sweet and strange with a looming sadness. My wife hates it.
