I went Verso. After I chose that I watched the Maelle ending and I'm happy I chose the Verso ending. Maelle's was indeed dark. As painful as it is sometimes, you have to face reality and grieve. Maelle promised she'd come out of the painting but she definitely never would.
One reason I made the decision I did
Spoiler: show
was that I was pretty sure choosing Maelle meant Gustave would come back. I missed him. He never got the chance to find out what his world really was, and as much as what Maelle did to Verso is twisted, I’m glad she could bring him back.

Which side did you choose? I went with Maelle, and I read about the Verso ending afterwards and I am surprised that Maelle is apparently the “dark” ending.
Spoiler: show
I went with Maelle. I figured the Maelle ending was the more evil ending. Verso was seeking compassion and relief. I choose Maelle since she was my superstar.
Spoiler: show
I barely used Maelle! I felt like in the early game she wasn’t powerful enough, then in the mid-game I used her strategically to combat enemies with lots of shields. Once Lune got the gradient attack that took out shields, I ditched Maelle again until late game when a lot of enemies were resistant to dark damage and I had to bench Sciel. It also felt right story-wise to use Maelle late.
Maelle was my best damage dealer throughout. Once I became able to keep her in virtuoso stance throughout a battle, she was damn near unstoppable. I applied mark for her too. I think my largest single hit was >100,000. My party was Gustave / Verso, Lune and Maelle for nearly the entire game. I bet Sciel could be a good damage dealer too.

It must have just been the pictos I used, I think it’s great that we had different experiences. There were some tough fights where Sciel’s dark damage really helped.

Not to be a jerk, but I never used Monoco unless I was forced to. If I ever play again, I’d try to use him more.

I also never used Monoco much, and Sciel was good but she was my #4.

It takes a while to master with each new enemy type. There are like 100 enemy types. So yeah. Dodging is easier with the larger window, but there are definitely going to be enemies (especially bosses) that you’re gonna need to parry in order to injure.
I did not perform a single successfully standard parry throughput my playthough.
That’s insane lol You should get a trophy for that.
Truly astonishing! Did you try to parry, CT? It's so satisfying when you get the timing right.
If the game gives me the choice between parrying / blocking or dodging / rolling, I always choose dodging / rolling. Every game, every time. I tried to parry at the beginning, but I was unsuccessful. I stuck to dodging. I used a pictos / lumines that gave me 1 AP for a successful dodge.
I am just now at the point of facing Sirene and just learned that Parry/Dodge are essentially interchangeable aside from the obvious difference. One battle I just started dodging and never gave parrying a thought until the gradient intro

Beat this today
Spoiler: show
I went with Maelle because it didn’t feel right to end the people who lived in the canvas despite Verso’s wish to be erased. He had a point, but I feel like there was a middle ground between the two. Alicia had a chance at being alive instead of a deformed person in real life; she deserves her choice too

Verso’s Drafts was very fun except for the boss at the very end. The super bosses added to the endless tower are beyond cruel

Just did some farming to get to Level 60+. Should I finish the story or explore some of the level appropriate, optional areas first?

I would suggest finishing the story and then doing the optional areas

This still boggles my mind! The parry mechanic is so satisfying once you get the timing right. It's right up there with Sekiro in that regard.

I've explored some side areas to improve relationships. Now I'm onto the final part of the story!

About 7 or 8 trials into the Endless Tower. Some of the late game weapons and Pictos/Lumines are very fun. Lune is a real standout.

Using Sciel with cheater to buff others and/or give them her turn feels like a cheat code but then again, the endless tower is tough

I’ve improved my parrying to the point I’m successful about 23% of the time.

I have done very little in the way of build optimization. Recommendations welcomed.

Farm lumina with the chromatic danseurs danseuse in old lumiere, put it all on maelle and give her all the damage increasing Pictos

Using these turned Sirene (who I was having trouble with but was close to beating) into a cakewalk.
