Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
Just read Essex County. Need to read it again. I don't read many graphic novels, but even in my limited experience, this story felt special. The way Jeff Lemire can draw a tearful eye is something.

Just found out Marvel work-horse Sal Buscema has died. Really big fan and hate to hear this. He seems to have passed last Friday and would’ve been 90 today.

His Hulk is still what I think of when I visualize the character. And his run on Thor after Simonson stopped drawing was simply fantastic. He had a long run on Captain America too.Peeps wrote:his spider-man run is top notch. but his peter and mary jane as well as other non main characters were drawn amazinglywease wrote:Just found out Marvel work-horse Sal Buscema has died. I read basically only superheroes (mostly X-Men) during January, but las night I read the first volume of Brubaker’s Criminal and it was fantastic. Going to continue that soon, but I’ve heard good things about Assorted Crisis Events so I’m going to mix that in too.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
Oh I can see how that would be confusing! This is an Image series that started last year and is ongoing. It showed up on a bunch of year-end-best-of lists and caught my eye:wease wrote:Oh, I didn’t realize that was the name of it. https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases ... s-tp-vol-1An action-packed sci-fi anthology series following normal people navigating an alternate world where time is having a crisis, and just stepping outside your door can send you on an unexpected adventure.
Time is having a crisis.
Mingling in the red-light district, you can find actual cavemen, medieval knights, and cyborg soldiers on leave from World War IV. Victorian debutantes amble their way into cell phone stores, confused and bewildered (what is a data plan?). On their way to work, bleary-eyed commuters get trapped in time-loops, assaulted by alternate-reality versions of themselves, and try to avoid post-apocalyptic wastelands. And LOOK: the 3:15 bus just took a wrong turn…into the neolithic era.

Re: Calling All Comic Geeks!
I’ve started the 80’s Swamp Thing series. I’m making my way thru the pre-Moore issues right now. I did read the Wein/Wrightson run beforehand so I’ll be properly versed in the lore and I can see what all Moore changes.

Way back I picked-up Grendel: Red, White, & Black from Barnes & Noble. Enjoyed it (primarily the art) but never went further so some 25+ years later I am starting at the beginning with Devil by the Deed.

Are you doing the “deluxe” version he put out a year or two back?oasisfan35 wrote:Way back I picked-up Grendel: Red, White, & Black from Barnes & Noble. Enjoyed it (primarily the art) but never went further so some 25+ years later I am starting at the beginning with Devil by the Deed.

Indeed, billed the Master's Edition. I guess it does expand well outside the original story. It looks tremendous plus the character has 40+ years of evolution to look forward.wease wrote:Are you doing the “deluxe” version he put out a year or two back?oasisfan35 wrote:Way back I picked-up Grendel: Red, White, & Black from Barnes & Noble.
