I’ve checked out The World According to Garp as my next in line, but I wanted to see if you guys had any recommendations for something.
I like lit fic, usually messy characters.
Thanks in advance.
Skippy Dies
thanks, Lenny.
have you read The Bee Sting? If so, do you like Skippy Dies better? I’ve read the former and liked it.
I haven’t, but it’s on my list.
Have you read The Sympathizer?
I have not.
do you recommend?
Yep it’s excellent. Maybe not messy in the sense you mean. I felt like the prose was a lot better in the first half, but overall it’s a great read
added to my list.
What else is on your list do you have any recs for me I feel like our general taste in things runs fairly close
let’s see…
I’m enjoying the one I’m currently reading, The Rest of Our Lives by Benjamin Markovits. An easy read with a protagonist who’s marriage is not great, he’s about to be an empty nester, and he’s decided to take a road trip after dropping his daughter off to college, kind of playing it all by ear.
I also liked The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. I did audio for the first half of that one because it’s read by Woody from Toy Story.
A few I’ve read in the last 18 months that I’ve also liked:
The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden
Writers and Lovers by Lily King
The Guest by Emma Cline
Big Swiss by Jen Beagin
North Woods by Daniel Mason
Books that are on my tbr that I’m considering:
Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico
The World According to Garp
Lonesome Dove
Infinite Jest - I’d probably take this in chunks.
