I've been watching the popular reality competition show The Traitors. It's one of those "a group of people must figure out who among them is a traitor" social engineering kind of shows. Fun empty calories TV. I blew through all 4 seasons of the US version, and then I saw the Australian version was available to stream so I watched the first season of that.

About halfway through the season, someone mentions one of the contestants. A 60 year old man called Paul. Up until this point I had never noticed Paul. Which is weird because again, we're halfway into the season. I know every other contestant from their confessional interviews and interactions with the rest of the cast. But Paul? Who the fuck is Paul?

So I looked into it. Turns out there was a concerted effort by the producers to fully edit Paul out of the season. There is no "official" explanation but a few of the other cast members were interviewed and asked about it. Apparently Paul quoted Austin Powers so often they couldn't use his footage a lot of the time. And he was defying production in other ways so they just cut him out almost entirely. He kept quoting Austin Powers and they told him to stop and he wouldn't stop?!?? And like he kept bringing his own props to the elimination ceremonies.

They did a pretty good job of just editing him out almost entirely (until they couldn't. he made it to the final 6!). He had plenty of usable footage but they allegedly gave him an ultimatum to either stop his antics or they'd edit him out, and he didn't stop.

I always wished my dad would have gotten on Deal or No Deal. He legit tried to. And he had this master plan that surely would have caused them not to air it. He always wanted to go to the first offer, which was usually like 3k - 5 k and no one ever took. Then he'd say "that's way more money than I came here with, I'll take it!"
