Artists and their "signature songs"

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Not a a Jorge thread, but there was this which is sort of a similar topic. Not "signature song" but song that best captures the whole vibe of an artist:

I didn't remember that thread, but I think it's different enough. Chris's is about capturing the overall sound of an artist, while "signature song" has a "popular perception" and cultural presence component that weighs strongly into the calculus

Yeah, it's different, but maybe that is what LV was thinking of

Jorge has made this thread like three times. But we love him, so he's allowed.

For Creed I've gotta go with "Higher" but it could very well be "With Arms Wide Open" or "My Sacrifice". I haven't looked at the numbers.

Where did you land on Stevie? I was thinking Superstition or Isn’t She Lovely.
For Stevie we discussed six contenders:

"For Once in My Life"
"Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)"
"Superstition"
"Isn't She Lovely"
"Sir Duke"
"I Just Called to Say I Love You"

with honorable mentions to "Happy Birthday", "Part Time Lover" and a bunch of others.

Ultimately my co-host and I disagreed on the final pick, with him picking "Superstition" and me picking "Sir Duke".
I think it's "Superstition" or "Signed, Sealed, Delivered".

"Sir Duke" is probably my fav. tho. That, or "Isn't She Lovely".
"You Haven't Done Nothin" is my fav but not popular enough to consider. "Superstition" is a good pick
Nice one. I Was Made to Love Her and I Wish are also two favorites.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

I Was Made to Love Her is one of my favorite things ever created.

I listened to the Stevie Wonder episode yesterday. Your partner was spot-on.

1000 point deduction for not even mentioning I Was Made to Love Her.

Also surprised neither of you mentioned that he played basically all the instruments in Superstition. That drum groove alone puts it above all the rest.

You also mentioned the songwriters for most of the ones you debated and missed the fact that one of the co-writers for Signed, Sealed, Delivered was Wonder’s mother. She actually has a co-writer credit for a number of his tunes.

For Once In My Life also holds the distinction of being a song where the bass line doesn’t repeat with no bars of music in the entire recording being played the same. James Jamerson was a fucking genius.

New episode is up! CREED: https://www.signaturesongpod.com/what-i ... ture-song/

This was a fun one to record

Next episode: ARIANA GRANDE. Taking your suggestions. What song do you immediately think of when you think of Ariana Grande?

"No Tears Left to Cry" but that's mostly because it's the one song I like by her

That would be a boring one, it's obviously "All Star"

In my preliminary research I'm kinda stunned at how many massive hits Ariana has had. I'm having trouble coming up with a list of contenders because so many of them are similarly huge

I think she's made a ton of good stuff, but that one is one of her best singles and the emotional heart of her career

Also probably her most "yuh"s per minute of music

You're absolutely right. I don't know why I thought "Walking on the Sun" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?" had a chance.

We did an episode on Tears for Fears: https://www.signaturesongpod.com/what-i ... ture-song/
I was a little resistant to doing it because the answer seemed too obvious to me, but it resulted in a fun conversation anyway
