I can confirm that Roman Polanski is indeed mine.

I find it really hard to separate an artist from his crimes when they’re as heinous as his. I think his Macbeth is definitive, but I don’t use any of it in class because of his drugging and raping a 13 year old. It’s just too much for me to see past.

That separation generally isn’t an issue for me, and I do think - thanks to how high-profile his case is - people have a bit of a double standard with how they react to Polanski versus other ‘70s celebs with similar histories (David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and a million other rockstars). It’s also kind of ironic that the whole world seems to care about it way more than Samantha Geimer herself, who has repeatedly pleaded for the public to let it go, did a full interview with Emmanuelle Seigner (Polanski’s wife), and even took pics with Polanski in recent years:



Not a defense, of course. No one is disputing how awful what he did was. But it does get kind of tiresome that any reference to his movies inevitably leads here.

It’s its own topic, and I don’t mean to derail a good thread. I don’t think there is a director whose entire filmography I celebrate. Two movies spring to mind when I think of being wowed by the directing: The Fellowship of the Ring and Snatch.

probably the easiest way to not have that happen is not to do it

i know who polanski is but couldnt name you one of his films

id say as far as who have i watched the most it would be hughes, speilberg, lucas, burton and tarentino (although the latter it is kill bill, from dusk to dawn that i have seen)
