I just finished this. It's kinetic. The way it shifts into gear about halfway through took me by surprise. The ambient part after that, with the successive crashes, reminds me of the last couple of minutes on SY's Pattern Recognition.

It's refreshing to encounter something like this when so many things compete for attention these days. That bass and cymbal draws you in and gently nudges you to put everything else aside and sit still for an hour.

I understand the studio recordings are primarily improv-based, but supplemented with editing, overdubs, etc.

Their live sets are completely improvised.
