is it a physical move or in name only? whats the commute/benefits like compared to the old company?
They're both WFH, so no moving necessary. Pay is a little better. Benefits probably are too but I don't really pay attention to them. Would gladly sacrifice those bumps to stay in my current role at my current company, though.
Is your role changing, as well?
Yeah, it's kinda hard to explain but, currently, I work a ton of tasks with autonomy. At the new place, it's only going to be one of those current tasks, and with a lot less autonomy. (And, unfortunately, it's my least favorite of all the tasks I work.) Hopefully I can move up quickly and do something else.
I have faith in you.
Do you lose your tenure with the switch?

I just applied to a job in New York City? Do you guys think I could hack it in The Big Apple? The City That Never Sleeps? If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere? The City So Nice They Named It Twice?
I'm taking the train down on Saturday just to spend the day (if the weather doesn't change to rain and/or freezing temps). Fingers crossed I can survive that
LoathedVermin72 wrote:I thought you already lived there? Or are you in upstate NY or something?
I'm in beautiful upstate New York. I've lived here (in different areas of upstate) all my life, save the two years (age 29-31) when I went further north and lived in Montreal.

The high school I work at has 3 different lunch periods to accommodate all our kids. One is called split lunch and is in the middle of 5th hour. Gym and science (labs) teachers are understandably never assigned it. No one wants it for obvious reasons. There are 8 of us in my core friend group - English, 2 social studies, 1 math, 1 business, 1 science- so we were never all together. We discovered years ago we could all be together as long as we requested split lunch. We have a ping pong table and it’s been amazing. Until this year.
This young fucking hippie para comes to our lunch. He didn’t ask to play; he just started playing. And he’s not good. The rest of us have been playing between 5-20 years. Our games are competitive and fun because we have known each other for decades. So the gameplay blows whenever he’s involved. But that’s not the worst part. He can be taught and will get better.
The worst part is who he is as a person. Not a bad guy. Just fucking annoying. He repeats everything with a laugh. One of us could say, “Move your feet, you old bitch,” and he’ll say the whole sentence through a laugh. He does this at least a dozen times every lunch. He is never absent except when he got the flu this winter and was gone for a week. It was the best week of the year. And because he’s a para, he decides when he wants to go to lunch, I guess. I’m looking into the consequences for manslaughter.

I know. I feel like a mean girl. I’m in a room with teenagers all day. They’re mostly great, but that 25 minutes with my friends is sacred. I don’t want an interloper.

Paraprofessional. Their job is to help kids with IEP’s. There are two kinds: paras who don’t do shit. Just look at their phones. And paras who do the work for the kids. I have had kids who can’t read ace tests. It’s infuriating.
