Was it Bart? He lost his mind when I said metric was superior to imperial. Seems like a bit of a SPEAK AMERICAN kinda guy.

Or maybe it was B. He has a hard enough time reading RM properly.

blueviper wrote:I don’t think it is. I’m watching a movie, not reading a book. I think subtitles take away from the visuals and you may miss visual cues while trying to read character dialogVinylGuy wrote:not wanting to read a subtitle is so weird
I watched squid game with the over dub and had no issues. I like watching the characters reactions and probably would have missed a lot reading subtitles.

I judge people very harshly when they have ignorant hardline refusals around movies like that. Subtitles, old movies, black and white movies, whatever. Just know that whenever you say something like that I pretty much think of you as a toddler from then on.

It was most definitely not Wease. I’m closer to LV’s stance on this.spike wrote:I think it was Farmer John or possibly wease.

Says the guy who only watches movies if they're 30+ years old and come in a fancy BluRay tin. Re: What movies are you watching?
One thing I try to remember is that movies aren't the most important thing for a lot of people. For some people they're not even in their top 50 most important things. Those people probably would prefer a dub over subs when they do watch movies.

Re: What movies are you watching?
He’s got a good point about old movies. Most people I talk to would never watch an older black and white movie. I’ve had colleagues that think the 90s are the old days, and they may have watched a couple of those. Awful.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I've also been guilty of shitting on subtitles.
Specifically on "Sentimental Value". The whole movie's is too pleasing to the eye to miss any frames looking down and read.
So the approach I'm talking next time with movies like that is 1st viewing taking in all the dialogue and maybe a 2nd viewing enjoying all the imagery.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I have never found subtitles to get in the way of visuals. Maybe because I grew up watching English-language stuff with Spanish subs so my eyes are used to very quickly taking in the info.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I’ve got subtitles on even if I’m watching a Norwegian movie or an English-speaking movie. Got no problem understanding the language in either.
There is next to no dubbing in Norway (kids animated movies the exception, where both are available). But everything has subtitles, so I’m used to it.

Subtitles for a movie that’s in your primary language are where I draw the line.

Re: What movies are you watching?
You just have to watch more of them. You don't even think about subtitles after a while. As Jorge said, I have never found them to distract from the visuals. Your brain just processes everything as one.Buby wrote:I've also been guilty of shitting on subtitles.
